The altar of mediocrity
Modern society has shifted from a system of meritocracy, which encourages creativity, ingenuity, and exceptionalism by rewarding those who raise the bar and drive productivity, into a system of mediocrity. Mediocrity compels all members of society to just exist. Individuals lack motive to do anything more than the basic requirement. There is no incentive to go above the minimum requirement. Everybody gets a participation trophy, no matter the effort.
Every aspect of society has adopted this system. Politics and government live within the margins of average. Schools teach to the law of average and standardized testing further promotes mediocracy. Culture thrives at idealizing mediocrity through perpetuating all forms of “ISM’s”(secularism, feminism, genderism, agnosticism, humanism,Gnosticism, etc..).
The patriarchal structure for the family, laid out in Genesis chapters 2 and 3, are slowly being replaced with fatherless homes and undisciplined adults who lack desire to parent
Our churches are surrendering to the altars of mediocrity as well. All these false gospels and wolves in sheep’s clothing have degraded and devalued authentic Christianity.
Romans 12:2 tells us to not be conformed to this world, but transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good, acceptable, and perfect. Yet society continually lowers the bar by normalizing conformity. Our intended purpose is laid out clearly throughout Scripture, and supported by creeds, confessions, and other extrabiblical sources. We were created to glorify and worship God. Matthew 5:16 affirms this chief end of man.
Society thinks life is all about self gratification and fulfillment. That is a heresy that goes all the way back to the garden of Eden and original sin. Obedience to God grants you access to the tree of Life and communion with God, but obedience to man is a life of toil, pain, anguish, and darkness. We must shift our focus back to the tree of Life, and quit tasting the forbidden fruit.
