Congratulations to Margot for successfully completing our Reactive Dog Board & Train Program! When Margot arrived, she had a fear of taller men. Bryan, using the classic "flooding approach," became her primary trainer, and it worked wonders! Margot quickly formed a bond with Bryan, and the rest is history. We hope her newfound confidence in interacting with taller males continues to grow!

Advisory: No dog was trapped under the kennels during the making of this video. 😲

You would be surprised at where dog hair and kibble can accumulate. Thankfully, Animal Care Attendant Dakota can fit part of her body under the kennels, which allows the shop vac wand to effectively reach the hair and kibble.

Atticus has come a long way since the day he tried to attack me when I removed him from his kennel. After 16 days of training, he is now very calm, confident, and eager to work with me. In this video, he demonstrates a behavior known as the "switch." The switch command is designed to create distance from an approaching person or dog that Atticus may perceive as a potential threat. Dogs associate distance with safety, and the switch command helps prevent apprehensive feelings from escalating into aggression. Great job, Atticus!

One of my favorite strategies for training young dogs is to allow them to learn through self-discovery and free exploration. In this video, MeMe's desire to earn a treat motivates her to test her footing on an apparatus that has some give to it. As you can see, she is well rewarded for her courage.

Training your dog to walk calmly and under control isn’t just about good manners—it’s about building teamwork and trust.

A structured walk creates the perfect opportunity to expose your dog to new, sometimes provocative elements in the environment—whether it’s loud noises, unfamiliar people, other dogs, or moving objects. When done correctly, this exposure helps your dog build confidence and overcome fear in a supported, guided way.

Each step you take together is a chance to show your dog, “I’ve got you.” And over time, those once-scary things become no big deal at all.

Oh no! Just when I got good at aggressive Cane Corso roping, Atticus decided to play nice—so that’s the end of the rodeo.

On a serious note, many dogs are rejected or removed from board-and-train programs or boarding facilities due to initial aggressive behaviors. In my 46 years of specializing in fearful and aggressive dogs, I've learned that taking the dog for a walk (it doesn’t have to look pretty, just needs to be safe), counterconditioning the aggressive response by tossing treats into the kennel, and staying near the dog’s kennel while it is acting aggressively (to avoid giving the dog the impression that it scared me off) will lead to a much calmer and more confident dog within just a few days.
