I was honored to be asked to cover Griffin Pond Animal Shelters 4th annual Second Chance Gala this past weekend. I was only mildly disappointed there were no four legged guests in attendance, but I held it together long enough to focus on all of the generous guests that were able to make it, and there were many!

If you've paid attention to anything rescue related in recent years you know that things have not been easy on the wonderful people that give their hearts and time to help the animals that need it most. It was amazing to see all of the generosity and support for them this weekend.

My struggle is that I would happily spend my entire day experimenting, playing, trying to figure out how to bend light so it will fit into a paintbrush. Could be worse though..

I hear a lot of people say that "my dog won't sit for that" or "my dog is not trained well enough for that" and what most people don't realize is that they don't have to be. During sessions your dog stays on leash and it is later removed during post processing. This allows your dog to just be a dog and have fun while also keeping them safe and relatively contained to the area we want to work in without wandering.

Also, it's important for me to recognize that we are working with dogs - I can't and don't expect them to cooperate with me all the time. But that's fine - instead, we meet them where they're at so that we can capture their most natural, fun loving selves. So if they don't want to sit that's fine! We just work with what they feel comfortable doing.

One of my favorite places for sessions is Lackawanna State Park. If you're going for more of a nature feel for your images it just always seems to fit the bill - there are fields, streams, walkways, and beautiful greenery. I've managed to find some spots that are typically a little quieter if you want to avoid distractions, and overall it's just a great place to get out and spend the day.
