Companion Animal Care Team & Urban Sanctuary

Companion Animal Care Team & Urban Sanctuary The mission of Companion Animal Care Team & Urban Sanctuary is two-fold.

Founded in 2025 and based in Tucson, AZ the Companion Animal Care Team & Urban Sanctuary (CACTUS) is a veterinarian-founded non-profit aimed at keeping pets with their people and out of shelters. We aim to prevent animal homelessness by providing veterinary resources, education, and support for responsible pet ownership, thereby reducing the need for shelter placement and improving the well-being

of both people and animals. We also aim to provide sanctuary to the geriatric or otherwise vulnerable pet populations in southern Arizona.

Perry came to us from Pinal County in DESPERATE need of medical attention. It took a lot of effort from a lot of people to get him to us 🙏🏻 CACTUS performed the surgery he required (more on this in another post) and he has healed up spectacularly! Perry is the Sanctuary’s first small dog, weighing in at only 9 pounds, he is smaller than all our cats! He loves to cuddle, sit shotgun in the car, and give kisses💋✨

The animals come to CACTUS with a million different stories. Shadow's journey was tough - left behind by his owner, found by a realtor, and returned twice to the humane society. Now, he's found his forever home and just needs to decide who gives the best belly pats when he rolls over 🖤🤍

So proud of the work we get to do and all of our supporters.

Meet Jax, also known as Numero Uno!

This 8-year-old German Shepherd came to Pinal County Animal Care & Control (PCACC) as a stray. The dedicated folks at PCACC cared for Jax for 5 long months and treated his ear infections. Despite PCACC's best efforts, shelter life was hard on this older gentleman and he developed an antibiotic-resistant ear infection. For those reasons Jax needed to find a new home.

As you can see, he has adjusted to his new lifestyle extremely quickly and with Dr. Dan Schuldenfrei stepping in to help with his expertise, Jax's ears are improving daily.

This is the heart of CACTUS - providing a haven for special needs seniors ❤️ 🌵🏠

The CACTUS 2026 Dog Walk-A-Thon is in the books! It was an incredible fundraiser for us with 50 dogs participating, we are so grateful for everyone’s contribution. Together we raised $2,114.60 with the support from Continental Ranch Pet Clinic! Every bit of every mile counted and will help us fund much needed veterinary care in communities that do not have routine veterinary care. This was an incredible first fundraiser for us and a shout out to our ‘winners’, Heidi and Colby McDevitt who walked/ran 102 miles during January with Betty and Gypsy 🐾🫶🏻🐾 Looking forward to a 2027 Dog Walk-A-Thon!
