Ever seen a cat with two different colored eyes? 👀 That’s called heterochromia!

It’s most common in white cats, because the same genes that give them their snowy coats can also block melanin (the pigment that adds color) from reaching one eye. That eye stays blue, while the other develops its own shade — creating that striking two-tone look.

This condition is especially seen in white-coated breeds like the Turkish Angora and Turkish Van, and can also pop up in bicolor or tuxedo cats with heavy white spotting. In darker-coated cats, it’s much rarer, since melanin is usually evenly distributed to both eyes.

It’s one of those fascinating reminders of just how colorful cat genetics can be! 🌈🐾

We're celebrating this special holiday with , 🎉With his 6th birthday just around the corner, Cooper's family wanted to learn even more about him (besides that he loves frisbee and playing fetch for hours) 🥎

Although his breed is fairly obvious, his pawrents wanted to discover if there were any hidden health risks lying underneath the surface 🧬 His results revealed he was at risk for Von Wildebrand Disease 1 (a protein essential for blood clotting), and a carrier for Degenerative Myelopathy (a disease similar to ALS in humans).

Equipped with this knowledge, his family shared Cooper's Basepaws report with their veterinarian and are keeping a closer eye on Cooper's health going forward 👏
