National ID Your Pet Day is a great reminder to make sure all of your contact information is up-to-date on your pet's microchip AND to get some form of physical identification on them before the 4th of July!
🐾🗓️It's National ID Your Pet Day!🐶🆔
Attention, pet parents! It's July 1st, and that means the Fourth of July is basically knocking on our door. 🧨 Unfortunately, fireworks often turn our sweet, snuggly pets into accidental escape artists. 💨 That's why today is super important – it's National ID Your Pet Day! Let's get our furry family members all set up for safety, especially with the sky about to get noisy.💥
Here’s the game plan to keep your pet from going on an unexpected solo adventure:
1. Tag, You're It! ✍️
Seriously, make sure your pet has a physical ID tag on their collar. It's like their personal "I have a loving home!" billboard. If you're fresh out of tags or yours is looking a bit worn, no stress! Grab a Sharpie and write your info on the inside of their collar. Or, for a quick fix, use a piece of heavy-duty tape on the collar and write on that. Every clue helps when you're trying to reunite with a lost pet!
2. Microchips: Small but Mighty (with a crucial step!) 💉
Think of a microchip as your pet's tiny, permanent ID card. If they ever slip their collar on a grand escapade, this little chip is their ticket back home!
Need to get your buddy chipped? Your vet can do it, or we can right here at HHHS! We might be able to squeeze in a few more appointments July 2nd-3rd (just a heads-up, we're closed on the 4th, so call ASAP!). The best part? These appointments are absolutely $0 thanks to Hill’s Pet Nutrition! Yep, totally free. Give us a call at 785-233-7325 to grab a spot before they're gone.
Already microchipped? Fantastic! Now for the most critical part: Is your contact information actually UP TO DATE?! This is where many well-meaning pet parents stumble. If you’ve moved, changed your phone number, or just generally updated your life, please call your pet's microchip company and update your details. And for extra peace of mind, add an emergency contact – just make sure their info is current, too! Because nobody wants to play phone tag with a lost pet.
Can't remember who chipped your pet? We've got you! No need to stress. Just swing by one of our public microchip scanning stations:
🔹Right outside our HHHS Lost & Found Pets entrance (on the east side of the building)
🔹Over at Hills Bark Park of Topeka in Gage Park
🔹Or at Fellowship Hi-Crest
Just scan your pet, then pop that microchip number into a microchip search website (a quick Google search for "microchip lookup" will guide you!). It’ll tell you exactly which company holds your pet's info. Easy peasy!
3. Time for a Pet Photoshoot! 🤳🏼
Seriously, grab your phone and snap a current, clear photo of your pet. Make sure it shows what they look like and their relative size. If your furry friend ever decides to go on an unscheduled walkabout, a good photo is your best friend for creating those "LOST PET" posters that truly help bring them home.
Let’s work together to keep all our beloved animals safe and sound this Fourth of July! Share this post to help us spread the word and keep more pets where they belong – at home! ❤️🐾
