Tick season is in full swing in the Northwoods. After every outdoor adventure, take a few minutes to check your dog – especially around the ears, neck, belly and between the toes. Ask your vet about tick prevention options that are right for your pup, and make it a habit to comb through their coat after hikes or time in tall grass. A quick check can make a big difference in keeping your dog – and you – healthy.

More mud usually means more baths, but don’t overdo it. Too many baths can dry out your dog’s skin. Aim for when they are truly dirty, not just a little dusty. Use a gentle dog shampoo and rinse thoroughly, as leftover soap can irritate their skin.

Spring in the Northwoods means mud. A lot of it. Before your dog comes inside, keep a towel by the door and take a minute to wipe paws. It prevents bad habits like running through the house covered in mud. Training Tip: teach your dog to pause at the door, wait to be wiped off, and enjoy tasty treats.
