It is with a heavy heart, full of resolve, that I wish to inform everyone that I will be discontinuing operations once the current appointments on my books have been honored. This is a tough but firm decision I have made after inner reflection and prayer.

While the end of my lease was the catalyst for me reflecting on how my business has evolved over the last few months, it is not the reason for me making the decision I am making. The truth is, after realizing it would not be easy to find a space that I could work in as efficiently and affordably as the one I am now, I began to consider renting a storefront.

While the idea of expanding into my own space was exciting and consumed my thoughts for all of 24 hours, I finally snapped back to reality and realized that I never intended my business to grow this fast. Anyone that knows me knows that I am a complex person with a variety of professional interests. Going into 2026, I had set a number of goals for myself that I seldom shared with anyone. Expanding into my own space would be antithetical to the promises I made to a younger, wide-eyed version of myself I have missed for far too long.

While grooming is something I have been a part of since 16 years old, I have daydreamed of a million versions of myself. While a lifetime is not enough to meet every version, I would like to scratch the surface of a few before my soul leaves this Earth. While familiar and comfortable, committing to grooming full time feels like a step backwards. My current dwellings allow me to have the best of both worlds, but as I go into my 30's, I am not ready to put all of myself into an expanded business. It would be the wrong decision, and I refuse to run a business that I am burdened by.

Maybe one day I will revisit the idea of running my own salon, but it will be on the terms I want and deserve, because I will not accept a life I do not deserve. I just appreciate all the elements that came together and allowed me to accomplish what I have, and the universe showing me when it was time to let it go peacefully. It was all divine intervention.

Thank you for all of your support and I will be in touch to confirm final appointments over the ensuing weeks!

With all my love,
De Andre

Important Update:

I just received news today that my current landlord will not be renewing my current lease past June 30th of this year. There is no ill will as she is fully within her rights as the property owner and would like to utilize the space for storage for her food pantry as she has obtained access to larger quantities of food.

I appreciate your patience and flexibility as I begin my search for a new space ❤️

For personal reasons unrelated to my buisness, I will not be accepting new clients that require more than a bath/dehsed and nail trimming.

This is not because I do not enjoy doing haircuts, doodles, or difficult dogs. Since starting to work for myself, I have yet to have a dog I did not enjoy working on.

I have simply had circumstances in my personal life come up that will require time, effort, and solitude. There will be times I will have to condense my schedule and request flexibility from my current clients, and adding more dogs limits my ability to accommodate them in these cases.

I am NOT cutting anyone who is a current client from my schedule. If there are any changes to your appointments I WILL contact you. Otherwise things will proceed as normal.

If you have a low maintenance dog that does not require excessive grooming, or simply need a nail trim, you are welcome to reach out.

If you have a dog that requires higher maintenance, I am happy to add you to a waiting list for when I am ready to take more on.

Thank you for understanding and have a lovely day 💗

If anyone has old towels they are looking to get rid of, I am always willing to take them! They don't have to be fancy either. I use larger, intact towels to dry dogs and older, rattier towels for cleaning purposes. I am also willing to pick them up if you are in the Toledo area and have at least 5 decent ones to give. I usually thrift them so, once again, they don't need to be fancy, just functional. It is also NOT an urgent request. I plan on hunting the thrift stores through the next couple of weeks. I just figured I'd put out feelers if anyone needs to offload some for good use 💗

I will be flying back to Ohio this evening. I had misplaced my 2026 schedule book my last week of 2025 and only found it right as I was leaving town. If we did not make your appointment yet, I'll be reaching out over the next couple of days to get that sorted out. I missed you all dearly and hope you had a lovely holiday 💗

End of the Year Updates:

⭐️ My official last day of work for the year will be Tuesday the 23rd! I am technically booked but I am willing to squeeze some last minute dogs in on a case by case basis. Just be aware, if I offer you a 9pm appointment, I am being dead serious 🤣

⭐️I will be out of town/state/country and away from the land as a whole from January 2nd to January 12th. I will not be reachable for most of this time, and may not look at my work phone until later in that week. I am not scheduled to groom again until the 17th (I am booked this day) so I can meet obligations at my other job. The BEST way to leave me a message will be through text message in order to leave room in my voicemail for those who are not fond of texting.

⭐️I have made it a priority this upcoming year to utilize continuing education, private grooming lessons, and volunteering in the dog show world to learn more about some of the breeds I have felt drawn to on a personal level. While I have always given my "clean, safe, accountable" spiel to new clients, and those of you who knew me in my A1 days were just happy to see me back, it has always been a priority to hone in on my technical skills once I found more of a groove and built a solid foundation in my buisness. Now that I have that, I would like to offer you more in terms of styles and modified breed trims when possible.

⭐️ Even though I don't advertise or post pictures often, I am taking new clients. When I opened, I had not intended to be an all breed groomer, but sometimes you have to adapt, and it has really opened the world of grooming up to me in a way I haven't felt since I started at A1 a decade ago. With that said, please know that I am willing to try anything once. I also happily do doodles, so do not hesitate to refer. I have yet to do a dog I didn't like and you are allowed to try everything once and decide if you want to do it again!

⭐️Please be advised that I am slowly getting busier, and I will never hire another person. While I do not post many pictures or advertise, I have steadily been growing from word of mouth from vets, other groomers, and my regular clients. I also have two cats and a Payton I have to maintain 😇 While I love having a flexible schedule and squeezing people in when I can, I cannot promise this will always be the case. I only want to committ to what I can handle on my own, and open a wait list if i start to grow beyond that. Please prebook to avoid any potential delays in grooming needs, especially as I set more time aside this year for dog shows and private grooming lessons.

Thank you all for a wonderful "year" (actually seven months) and be safe during your holiday travels!

I will not be operating from January 1st to January 17th. for a much needed break! I will not be reachable up until the 13th. Please be sure to leave message on my voicemail or through text.

My last day working before Thanksgiving will be this Wednesday, Nov 26th. I am technically booked but may be able to squeeze in some evening appointments for small or low maintenance dogs.

I do still have appointments available between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but I have had an influx of new clients, so please be mindful if you need to get your dog groomed before Christmas. Many are prebooking for December even if it is earlier than when they would typically be due for grooming. My last day working will be Tuesday December 23rd. I may pick up a day or two between Christmas and New Year, but nothing is set in stone.

That means I may potentially be out of the salon for 3 weeks. Please plan accordingly and reach out if anyone needs anything before then!

I love you all and please have a safe holiday ❤️

My project for this afternoon! Dixie lives on a farm and is tasked with protecting chickens and other livestock.

Today was her first time ever being groomed at 5 years old, and she did amazing ❤️ The owner was receptive to education on proper grooming maintenance and will be arranging for Dixie to come on an appropriate schedule to maintain her coat 😇

While many people believe that grooming is strictly cosmetic or that farm dogs don't benefit from grooming, dogs like Dixie actually regulate their body temperature through their coat and need it to protect them from the environment. That is why it is imperative to a dog like Daisy to have a healthy and maintained coat, especially in extreme weather.

While it would have been more efficient for me to shave her naked in her matted spots, that would have left her without roughly 30% of her coat. I made it my goal to save as much coat as possible to ensure Dixie could preform her farm duties adequately. While sometimes it's unavoidable to shave a dog, proper technique and knowledge can take you a long way. Plus, Dixie was enjoying the attention and it was obvious she enjoyed having a task for the day, so I was able to spend a lot more time on her.

A special thanks to Jess at Pet & Plant Nanny for recognizing Dixie's need to be groomed, arranging the appointment, and transporting her for the owner! The world is a little brighter when we take time to help each other 😁

Good afternoon everyone! I just wanted to let everyone know that the proper channels are being followed regarding threats I've received this past weekend. Everything has been documented with TPD and the courts.

I am hoping this disgruntled individual was just having a temper tantrum and wanted to cause panic in retaliation. If there are any further threats, further action will be initiated through law enforcement and Common Pleas Court.

Regardless, Brooke and myself have talked extensively, and we will be implementing a number of precautions for the time being, including new cameras to ensure any vandalism or harassment is documented for the police.

We will be keeping the front door locked during the day when we are not expecting clients.

While I did cancel appointments today to have time to touch base with Brooke and ensure everyone was on the same page procedurally and emotionally, I will be currently leaving further appointments as is.

The only realy difference is that I will probably have clients inform me when they are on the way so I can unlock the front door and keep watch for arrival.

Finally, while I don't really participate in the food pantry Brooke runs in the building due to my busy schedule, I would like to make it known that before any of this even took place, Brooke has had the daunting task of finding ways to keep the pantry adequately supplied. If anyone has any donations, specifically cash, non-perishable food, toiletries, feminine hygiene products, pet food, or winter coats/hats/gloves, please consider donating.

There may be restrictions on what can be donated in order to avoid clutter as storage space is limited. If you have any questions about what can or cannot be accepted, please reach out to Paws & People Pantry by Hound Haven to get further clarification.

Once again, I do not actively participate in pantry operations as I am already spread thin, but if you would like to leave donations when you come for appointments I do not mind.

It would help take some of the burden off her shoulders has the past couple weeks have been quite hectic, even outside of this situation.

I appreciate the support we've received from everyone online and in person the last couple of days.

Please continue to send good thoughts our way as all this hopefully blows over.

I refuse to be bullied or intimidated to run my buisness by anyone, so any further trouble will be dealt with as far as the law will allow, and I am fully aware of my rights as a law abiding, tax paying citizen of Ohio and the United States.

Much love to you all 😘

Good afternoon, everyone. Due to ongoing threats of physical violence, the police will be involved. I have filed a report with TPD and am waiting for the report to be finished so I can pursue legal action with the prosecutors office.

Due to this development, I have decided to cancel the rest of my appointments this week to committ time to following through with the legal process, keeping an eye on the property, and ensuring that Taylor and Brooke at Hound Haven as well as their volunteers in their food pantry have extra help keeping an eye on the property and coming and going safely.

While I am onbviously concerned for my own well being, I am moreso concerned for the safety of Brooke, Taylor, and the property. Brooke has spent the last couple years feeding the community through her food pantry and she does not deserve retaliation for a choice I made (and still stand by).

This individual has threatened me with violence, attacked me for my sexuality, and spent all day yesterday continuing to text me threats despite my insistence that he is not allowed to contact me and this is a legal matter.

While I expect any indidual to have strong words for me and even leave a scathing review when I tell them they are irresponsible for allowing their dog to get matted (once again, I wouldn't change anything and stand by my words), his excalation of the situation goes to show that he is not a stable individual, so I must enact caution until the proper processes have been followed.

Please send well wishes and good vibes to Brooke and Taylor, as this literally has nothing to do with them.

If you have an appointment this week I will be reaching out.

And to the person doing this, shame on you once again.

I will not be swayed, and you will face accountability for your actions.

Trigger Warning: Animal neglect and threats of violence.

So hardly do I post on here. Personally, I'd rather not have any social media. My goal as a buisness owner, as was bestowed upon me by my best friend and mentor (if you know, you know) was to always let my actions speak for themselves. Everyone that knows me, knows that I pretend EVERY dog is my own dog, Payton, pictured in my profile picture. So when I know something wrong is happening to an animal, I immediately imagine Payton and respond how I would want someone to advocate for him.

On July 30th of this year, a dog who belong to the individual in this text chain came into Hound Haven for their Trim and Treat night.

Many of you know that I rent my space inside Hound Haven, and operate entirely independently. I have my own phone, own clients, own set up, and function in a much different manner.

When this dogs came in that day, he was PELTED. It looked as if someone was cutting the hair down his back with scissors, and everything below that was a cast. Even though the dog was only there for nail trimming, Brooke attempted to at least shave off what she could to help the dog feel better, and convinced the gentleman that brought him to make a grooming appointment to have the dog adequately groomed.

Well, he no called no showed the day of the appointment. Brooke is diligent about sending out reminders too so there really were no excuses.

What I didn't realize at the time was that this was a dog i groomed previously a handful of times that I can probably count on one hand over an 8 years period.

Everything this dog came in, he was a mess. Dirty, matted, couldn't see because his face was so overgrown. The gentleman would call every 1 to 2 years, beg me to groom the dog, then no call no show several times in a row.

Finally weeks or even month later, a very nice, older woman would call and apologize on his behalf, and she would promise to make sure he showed up with the dog. We would groom the dog, he'd be greatful and act like I was his best friend, and then he'd disappear for another two years give or take, and the cycle would continue. Maybe one time the dog came in not matted because he got my spiel and I threatened to not allow him back if the dog kept coming in that shape.

Fast forward to present day, Brooke referred him to me because after him no call no showing, and the dog being in severe shape, and her knowing I have more time to give to severly matted dogs, especially seniors, he contacted me.

As any person with basic cognition and emotional intelligence would know, 23 is ADVANCED age for a dog. That is something that is few and far between. The oldest dog I have every personally groomed or seen in person outside of this one was barely 21 years old.

I'm not going to go into the complications that can arise from any dog, much less a dog of 23 years old, being severly matted.

My issue with this entire situation is that this behavior from a client is UNACCEPTABLE.

Everyone gets one time for their dog to come to me in poor shape before they get my ugly side, so the fact that he got away with the for 8 years, then continued NOT to get his dogs groomed for 2.5 years after I took a hiatus from grooming is appalling to me.

You can see our conversations and the points I made to him in my text messages below.

But the issue is NOT him threating to assault me or trying to avoid any accountability for the shape he left his dog in.

My ISSUE is that he is so unaccountable, he is attacking Brooke and Hound Haven for something that was not even her doing outside of her trying to do the right thing, protecting the integrity of her buisness, and being my landlord.

This man could get 100 people to leave bad reviews on MY PAGE and I would not care in the slightest because I do not give any energy to social media and my clients who see me consistently know my heart.

I have literally had people offer to make me a website, nominate me for Best of Toledo, leave me reviews or hand my card out at events. I've said NO to all of it, and have simply asked them to just give my name to anyone who needs a dog groomer that will treat their dog like their own. I do this because I love it, not because I need any social validation.

This is like if you get mad at a hair salon owner, then attacking the landlord who also happens to do hair.

I stand by everything I said to this man. It is about the PRINCIPLE at the end of the day. I went back and fourth with myself because I really wanted to be able to help the dog, but 1) you can't help the dog if the owner wont even show up, and 2) I spent 8 YEARS helping this dog and the owner has learned NOTHING.

To add to all of this, Hound Haven is not just a grooming salon, but a volunteer run food pantry. So not only is this NOT Brooke's doing, but she is the one who is literally trying to feed the community and getting attacked.

If everyone could share and send some positivity to Brooke at Hound Haven, she could use it given a hateful, ignorant person is attacking her for something I said and did.

And once again, shame on you for how you treat your dog and how you treat other people.

Also, since he threatened me, the police will be getting involved.
