🐾 Keep Your Pet Safe, Healthy, and Home Where They Belong 🐾

Join us for our Microchip & Vaccine Clinic!
📅 Friday, November 21, 2025
⏰ 9 AM – 11 AM

Give your pet the protection they need to stay healthy—and the best chance of finding their way home if they ever get lost.

✨ Why Microchip?
A microchip is a quick, permanent form of ID that can help reunite you with your pet if they go missing. It’s not a GPS, but it is a lifesaver. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association:
🐶 Microchipped dogs are 2.5x more likely to be reunited with their families.
🐱 Microchipped cats are 20x more likely to make it back home.

Pairing a microchip with a collar and ID tag gives your pet the best shot at a safe return.

✨ Why Vaccinate?
Vaccines protect your pets from serious, preventable illnesses. At this clinic, we’ll offer a variety of vaccines and blood tests for both cats and dogs to help keep them healthy and protected year-round.

Join us and give your pet the care they deserve!

Walk-ins welcome. All pets must be leashed or in a carrier.

This is one of the most exciting press releases we've ever sent!! Moving day is FAST approaching and the incredible Best Friends Animal Society have generously sponsored the adoption fee for all dogs adopted starting TOMORROW!

Lucas County Canine Care & Control (LC4) is packing up and preparing to move into its new and improved facility—and the department is asking for the community’s help to make the transition easier for the dogs.

To give as many dogs as possible the chance to move into loving homes instead of new kennels, LC4 is waiving the adoption fee for all adoptable dogs from September 20 through September 27 thanks to a grant from Best Friends Animal Society.

“Whether you’ve been thinking about adopting or waiting for a sign—this is it. Every dog deserves a family, and now is the perfect time to make that happen,” LC4 Deputy Director Terra Bundy said. “Our new shelter is state-of-the art, but we’d much rather see a dog move into its forever home than move locations with us.”

While the adoption fees are waived, all adopters must purchase a dog license at the time of adoption. Lucas County dog licenses are $25. All dogs adopted from LC4 are spayed or neutered, have age-appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, dewormed, have a negative heartworm test, and are current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.

Not ready to adopt? You can still help make the move less stressful for LC4 dogs by hosting a foster sleepover. It’s a fun way to let a dog decompress at your home during our move. All the supplies are provided; all you have to do is shower them with love.

Foster pickup is Sunday, September 28 at the 410 S. Erie St. location and drop off begins October 3 at the new location at 1301 Monroe St. To sign up, visit our website at lucascountydogs.com/events.
As a reminder, LC4 will be closed to the public September 29 through October 3 to help facilitate a seamless move.
LC4 will open its new doors to the public on Saturday, October 4 at 11 a.m.

Lucas County Canine Control officers who encounter a stray dog in the field during this time will make every effort to reunite that dog with its family before bringing it back to the shelter. Additionally, in an effort to return as many dogs as possible to their homes, LC4 will waive the impounding fees for any dog impounded from September 29 through October 3 that is reclaimed between October 4 and October 8. If the dog does not have a current license, individuals must purchase a license in order to reclaim their dog. In Lucas County, an annual dog license is $25.

In order to ensure a smooth transition for the dogs currently in the care of LC4, the department will temporarily pause owner surrenders from September 22 through October 3. The department’s focus during this time will be on safely transporting, settling, and supporting the dogs moving to the new LC4 building.
Beginning October 4, LC4 will resume accepting owner surrenders by appointment only as part of an ongoing effort to better serve both dogs and families in our community by providing structured intake appointments to allow for more individualized attention and support.
