Just spoke with the founder for The Center for Pet Safety - did you know that outside of consumables and pharmaceuticals, there is no oversight, no monitoring, no regulations that companies have to follow to ensure that pet products are safe? It's up to the consumer/pet owner to do thorough research to make sure that you what you are purchasing is actually safe for your pet.
Here are some red flags that I've noticed from my experience of purchasing from unethical companies - feel free to share and add your own.
🚩 They only show positive reviews on their storefront.
🚩 Amazon reviews don't match the product listed (you should report these to Amazon when you see them)
🚩 You see many Amazon product listing for the same product with different brand names
🚩 On the company social media you notice missing comments. You can see x number of comments but they are missing. This is a company that's likely deleting negative reviews and issues with their products. They hide instead of address issues.
🚩 Watch for excessive positive "bot" comments. They often are general (not specific to that product), overly positive, they repeat the same comments on different posts. Once you start to recognize them, they are easy to spot.
✅Check sites like bbb.org and trustpilot for reviews - the companies have no control over those. They can respond to them, but they can't delete them.
✅Look for reputable companies that have been in business for a while
