Scent Work University was created to fulfill a need: more access to outstanding dog training for both the pet dog owner and the dog sport enthusiast. Especially for those dog owners interested in Scent Work, having access to a local trainer may be extremely difficult, or even impossible. Whether you are just getting started in Scent Work, are working to develop some more advanced skills or are get

ting ready for trial, Scent Work University has the training solutions for you. Our online courses are designed to mimic the very same material covered in in-person group classes and private lessons. SWU strives to meet the needs of as many different learning types as possible, so the course material is presented in a way which is thorough and engaging. Our online webinars offer you the opportunity to have a real-time interactive learning experience with experienced and talented instructors and trainers. Nosework is a fascinating dive into animal behavior and communication. It is a sport vastly different from most others in terms of training and overall performance. Many people have and will continue to transition to Nosework from performance sports including agility. For both the dog and the handler this transition can be confusing as the “responsibility” for the collective behaviors of sourcing and indicating the location of a hide shifts to the dog more than the handler both in training and ex*****on.

The agility team develops communication skills based on subtle movements and verbal cues in order to navigate a course. Both members of the team are deeply in tune with each other as they execute turns, change of direction, discriminations, and specific obstacle performance over a course that may have 20 or more obstacles. Nosework, also called Scent Work, is in many ways more handler independent and dog reliant. This can lead to challenges to change the interactions between dog and handler.

This webinar will look at some common challenges for both the dog and handler and strategies to overcome them.
