Chylothorax is a condition most often seen in cats, though it can occur in dogs, where chyle (a type of lymphatic fluid) accumulates in the pleural space surrounding the lungs. This buildup makes it difficult for pets to breathe, as they’re forced to work against the pressure of the fluid with every breath. 😮‍💨🫁

A chylothorax develops when the normal drainage of chyle or lymphatic fluid is impaired. Cats affected by this condition often show signs of labored or restrictive breathing. It’s a rare diagnosis and can be especially challenging to manage.

Diagnosis is typically made through analysis of the fluid, which often has a distinctive milky-white appearance. Once chylothorax is confirmed, a search for the underlying cause should begin. Common causes include idiopathic (no identifiable cause), heart disease, and cancer.

Here is our team, led by emergency and critical care specialist Dr. Java, performing a thoracocentesis to remove a large volume of chylous fluid from the chest of a sedated cat.🐱

Koko’s spay day was a success! 💕🐾
This beautiful chocolate lab is officially on the road to recovery after her spay surgery. She was the sweetest patient and stole the hearts of everyone here (and maybe a few treats too 😉).

Spaying helps prevent unwanted litters and can reduce the risk of certain health issues later in life!Plus, recovery goes by quickly with lots of love and belly rubs!

Feel better soon, Koko! 💗🐶

Meet Colton: the dog who actually enjoyed his activated charcoal!

After getting into his dad’s Aleve, Colton was rushed to us right away. Aleve (naproxen) is highly toxic to dogs, even a small amount can cause serious issues.

We quickly induced vomiting and gave activated charcoal to help absorb any remaining toxins. Most dogs hate the taste… but Colton? He thought it was a snack. 🐶🖤

If you ever suspect your pet ingested something toxic, don’t wait! Time is everything. Early treatment can save lives. 🐾

Dr. Java to the rescue! 🐾This kitty came in blocked which means he couldn’t p*e due to a urinary obstruction (often caused by crystals). This is a life-threatening emergency that can lead to death if not treated quickly. Watch as we relieve the pressure and help this little guy feel MUCH better! 😺💦

EMERGENCY C-SECTION SUCCESS STORY! 🐾

Meet this incredible mama dog who came to us in a critical situation! She was experiencing dystocia, which means she was having difficulty delivering her puppies. Dystocia can be life-threatening for both mom and pups if not treated quickly.

Thanks to the skilled hands of Dr. Stephanie, our team quickly diagnosed the issue and performed an emergency C-section to save the remaining puppies. It was a race against the clock but mom and babies pulled through like champs! 💪🐶🐾

We’re thrilled to report that mom and her puppies are all doing well and are now recovering comfortably. 💕

Moments like these are exactly why we’re here!
