Tomorrow is butcher day. It will be the first time I do it myself. I feel that the most ethical thing you can do if you eat meat is to raise your own. We have a comfortable disconnect when we purchase from a grocery store.
It’s not something I’m going to enjoy doing but I feel I need to learn.
I’m always going to try to keep my birds as happy as I can so they hopefully only have one bad day.
Fingers crossed it goes well!

Playing around with a new idea. I raise my quail in stacked cages. I do my best to enrich as much as possible.
Giving them oyster shells for calcium seems a bit boring and it can get pretty messy.

I’m working on making calcium bars with different sources of calcium and herbs for something to peck at that might be a bit less messy.

I’m still ironing out the recipe but so far they love it.

First jar of pickled quail eggs! My nephew Drew helped me find a great recipe. Can’t wait to try them in about a week!
