we understand it

My grandma’s daughters haven’t spoken to her in weeks — all because she spent $200 on a dog bed.
Not because she talks to her pit bull like he’s human. Not because she tucks him in under handmade quilts every night. But because she bought him an orthopedic bed… after noticing his hips hurt when he stood up.
They don’t understand. But I do.
That pit bull isn’t “just a dog.” He’s what keeps her going since Grandpa passed. He’s her reason to wake up, to sew, to smile again.
Last night she sent me this photo — her and Bruno asleep on the couch, under one of her quilts. Her hand on his head.
The message said: “He snores just like your grandpa did.”
They think she’s losing it.
I think she’s surviving — one stitch, one snore, one dog bed at a time. ❤️🐾

From Online: Researchers Urge For U.S. Recognition Of Chagas As Endemic

Story by Texas A&M AgriLife

Texas A&M University, the University of Florida, and the Texas Department of State Health Services researchers say the time is now to recognize Chagas disease as endemic in the U.S. The multi-institutional team’s perspective article, published in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) September volume of Emerging Infectious Diseases, underscores growing evidence that points to endemic transmission.

“The biggest need is awareness, and that is the focus of our publication to share the scientific perspective that Chagas disease is endemic in the U.S.,” said Dr. Gabriel Hamer, of Texas A&M’s Department of Entomology. “Too often, medical and veterinary training programs dismiss Chagas as only a tropical disease and irrelevant to public and animal health in the U.S.

“But kissing bug vectors, the parasite, and locally acquired human cases are here. It is critical for our next generation of doctors and veterinarians to be aware of this vector-borne disease to assist with the diagnosis of humans and animal patients.”

Farm Dog Certified Testing is open to all breeds of dogs, and involves your dog performing a series of 12 exercises that are typical for a farm environment such as being in close proximity to livestock (who are always penned to avoid any altercations); jumping and staying on hay/straw bales; walking on unusual terrain; and jumping over logs. There is no herding involved. Instead, the goal is to assess his aptitude as a working farm dog by exhibiting self-control, confidence and trust with you or his handler.
