When winter rolls in, turtles don’t hibernate like bears — but they do slow things down! 🍂➡️❄️

If your turtle seems a little slower or is spending more time under the basking light, you’re not alone. Let’s talk basking and brumation.

🌿 Basking Basics:
☀️ Basking helps turtles warm up, dry off, and absorb UVB to keep shells strong.
🔥 During colder months, turtles often bask more often to regulate body temperature.
💡 A warm, dry basking spot with proper lighting is especially important in winter.

🍃 What Is Brumation?
🐢 Brumation is a natural seasonal slowdown some turtles experience when temperatures drop.
😴 You may notice less activity and a smaller appetite — totally normal for some species.
🌡️ Many indoor pet turtles won’t brumate at all if temps stay consistent.

💚 Winter turtle care is all about stable temperatures, proper lighting, and watching for changes — your turtle will tell you what they need.
