💧 Leptospirosis: A Disease Every Dog Owner Should Know About 🐾
Leptospirosis (or "Lepto") is a bacterial disease that can make dogs very sick—and it's more common than many people realize.
Dogs can become infected by:
🐾 Drinking from puddles, ponds, or standing water
🐾 Contact with urine from infected wildlife such as raccoons, skunks, rodents, and deer
🐾 Contaminated soil or water
Signs of leptospirosis may include:
• Fever
• Lethargy
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Loss of appetite
• Increased thirst or urination
• Muscle soreness or reluctance to move
In severe cases, leptospirosis can lead to kidney or liver failure. It is also zoonotic, meaning it can spread from infected animals to people.
