Alarm goes off. Before I'm even fully conscious, before opening my eyes completely, there's a wet nose touching my face. Every single morning. For seven years straight. My dog's face is the first thing I see every day and it sets the entire tone differently.
Most people wake up and immediately check their phones. See news, emails, social media, everything designed to create anxiety before they're even out of bed. I wake up and see pure, uncomplicated love. A being who's thrilled I'm awake. Who's been waiting for this exact moment. Whose tail is already wagging before I've said a word.
There's no agenda in his morning greeting. He doesn't want anything except my attention and presence. Doesn't care that I look terrible or have bed hair or morning breath. Just cares that I'm awake and we can start another day together.
That changes everything about how my day begins. Instead of immediately stressed, I'm immediately loved. Instead of scrolling through problems, I'm petting my dog and hearing him sigh contentedly. Instead of rushing into anxiety, I'm starting with something that grounds me.
People ask how I stay so positive. This is how. Every single morning starts with a reminder that I matter intensely to at least one being. That I'm someone's favorite person. That love exists without conditions or complications.
My dog's face is my alarm clock, my morning meditation, my reminder that before the day gets hard, there's this moment of pure joy. Every morning. For seven years. Never gets old.

If your pet needs a groomer who specializes in behavioral or fear-based cases, it becomes less about finding someone “good with dogs" and achieving a beautiful groom to understanding what actually goes into keeping everyone safe during that appointment.

Some pets come in with a history of fear, anxiety, or reactivity. That matters more than people realize. Being honest about that beforehand helps your groomer prepare instead of react in the moment. Because behavior isn’t always consistent. A pet that tolerated grooming last time might feel completely different the next time depending on stress, environment, or even how their body feels that day .

When safety becomes a factor, your groomer may need to use tools like a muzzle, extra support, or even another person to help. You may also notice the groom looks different than expected or gets paused or stopped entirely. That decision is made when a pet is too overwhelmed or reactive to continue safely.

There’s also a level of unpredictability that comes with behavior. Sudden movements, stress responses, or defensive reactions can lead to injury even when precautions are taken. That’s why experienced groomers adjust in real time and sometimes change the plan completely. The goal shifts from “getting it done” to getting through it safely.

Ultimately , grooming a behaviorally challenged pet is about trust, honesty, and working with the animal in front of us. Attempting to achieve something beyond that without considering what we have just discussed, actually works against them.
