🎙️ New Podcast Episode: The Soul Has Left the Body
When obedience becomes suppression.
As a rescue, we’ve seen firsthand what happens to dogs who are labeled “too much.”
We’ve witnessed the damage caused by outdated tools, rushed training advice, and pressure to perform.
But a dog who shuts down isn’t better.
They’re just broken in silence.
In this episode of Behavior Matters, Adia Shanee speaks on what too many avoid:
📍 Suppression isn’t success.
📍 Obedience doesn’t equal safety.
📍 And the tools pushed by big brands and social media “experts” are harming more than they’re helping.
This one is for every rescue dog who never had a voice.
And every guardian brave enough to listen now.

“The Soul Has Left the Body: When Obedience Becomes Suppression”
I’m not here to sugarcoat it.
Some of the “best behaved” dogs I’ve met were actually the most shut down. Silent. Still. Terrified to move because moving meant punishment. Showing emotion meant correction. Showing discomfort meant control.
And the worst part? We call that training.
In this episode, I name what big box pet retailers like Petco and PetSmart don’t want to say out loud:
👉🏽 Suppression is not training.
When aversive tools are sold at eye level, new guardians are set up to fail—and their dogs pay the price.
I tell the stories of Dakota, Sable, Toby, and a 12-week-old puppy named Delilah—canines whose obedience masked deep trauma. This episode is heavy. But it’s also necessary.
“Good dogs are often quiet dogs.
And quiet dogs are often just forgotten ones. Let’s stop forgetting them.”
