How Can You Prepare Your Pet for Surgery and Lower Stress?

A little preparation can go a long way in helping your pet feel more comfortable before and after surgery. One of the best things you can do is set up a calm, confined space at home where they can safely rest during recovery. Depending on the procedure, this rest period may last several weeks to a few months.

It’s also helpful to get your pet comfortable with leash walking ahead of time, especially if their activity will be limited after surgery.

Taking these small steps before surgery can make the transition home smoother and less stressful for both you and your pet. Our team works closely with your family veterinarian to guide you every step of the way. 🐾💙

We’re so happy to hear that Mocha is doing well years after her TPLO surgery and using her leg comfortably again. Moments like this mean everything to our team.

Getting ready for your dog’s big day? 🐾

Here’s how to set them—and you—up for success:
• Week Prior: Ask your vet about any extra tests (blood work, X-rays, ultrasounds) and plan your ride to and from the clinic.
• Night Before: Create a quiet recovery zone at home—crate, cozy bedding, separate from pets/kids—and gather meds/food.
• Morning Of: No breakfast! A fasted pup helps keep anesthesia safe. Always follow your vet’s specific instructions.
