Summer Heat

Dear Clubs,
We would like to advise you that this weekend there will be extreme heat in several parts of the country. As a precaution, we advise you have cooling stations available at your events for the competitive canines like ice and kiddie swimming pools to keep them cool. Additionally, please be mindful of the signs of heatstroke and seek immediately veterinary care if you believe a dog is affected.
Signs of heat stroke:
• Heavy panting
o Rapid breathing
o Excessive drooling
o Bright red gums and tongue
o Standing 4-square, posting or spreading out in an attempt to maintain balance.
• If you believe your dog is suffering from heatstroke, get them into a cool environment right away.
• Immerse your dog in cool water—do not use ice cold water, it can shock your dog’s system. Use cool water in areas where blood flows heavily, i.e. the pads of their feet, the groin area, and their jugular vein.
• Cool wet towels can be used to lower your dog’s body temperature
• Get your dog to a vet as soon as possible. Your dog may look like it is responding to the cooling techniques but could suffer internal injury. It is best to have them examined to rule out any complications.

Parker and I got to attend the American Belgian Tervuren Club’s national Scent Work trial. He passed every element (Interior, Exterior, Buried and Container) which put him in contention for High In Trial! We missed it by 5 seconds but did complete ALL four searches with a total time of a little over 51 seconds! These Qualifying runs helped him earn his Novice Interior, Exterior and overall Scent Work Novice titles.

Woo-hoo!! Business goal met!!

Had an army of women help me change from old carpet to rubber mats yesterday and today. Well, not an army, just 5 plus me, but the tasks were accomplished like an army. Sherry Cathey helped me muscle out some heavily glued carpet on Friday. We truly thought it might win when we started with the toughest section! 😵‍💫💪🏻 Today Chris Smith brought a crew that layed the mats like pros. I am truly grateful to you all. The place looks great!

Parker (14 months old) got to do his first Nose Work trial today. We headed to Olathe, KS for a NACSW NW1 trial. This level has four searches - container, vehicle, interior and exterior, each with one hide to locate. And, you have to have a perfect day to get the title. I didn’t have a lot of expectations, only a goal for us BOTH to enjoy the experience. He DID it!! I was so proud of his overall attitude and joy throughout the day. He ended up earning “Pronounced” marks from the judges in 3 of his searches. The best part was enjoying the day with friends. Love the comraderie of this sport.
