Super excited to share this! Alicia has quietly taken up the Japanese art form of Kokedama- hand forming spheres of soil around plants and wrapping them in moss- a unique way of displaying and enjoying a houseplant. Upkeep is really simple, when the ball feels dry or lightweight, soak it in water for about 10 minutes, let it drain, and it’s ready to display again! Kokedama is tied to the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi- centered on natural beauty and celebrating the perfectly imperfect. And let me tell you, as the woman who married me, she KNOWS natural beauty when she sees it! She’s excited to start offering these at shows and we think they’re a great gift for a loved one or yourself! Come check them out at our next show near you!

Our friends over at Tarantula Cribs just released this Repti Cribs enclosure for house snakes and l realized it would be awesome for other species as well! We have this trio of Bynoe’s geckos (Heteronotia binoei) that needed a new home and the dimensions of this enclosure are perfect for their needs! Bynoe’s geckos are pretty neat because they reproduce asexually through a process called parthenogenesis- they lay eggs that are clones of themselves! This enclosure allows them to have a basking light to replicate the hot Australian sun, and a heating pad on the back of the tank will radiate heat through the excavator clay background just like the rocks they hide in do in the wild. Arid springtails and isopods will take care of waste and the occasional dead plant leaf plus the secure lid will ensure that all feeder insects remain inside the enclosure!
