Since we'll all be missing them at Illinois Horse Fair this year here's an opportunity to pick up what you would have!

RULES/ANNOUNCEMENTS:

**Live Tack Sale/Auction**

Wednesday, February 17 @ 6 p.m. EST

Please familiarize yourself with the following guidelines for the sale. You do not need a bidder’s number to buy.

1. The tack will sell at a set discounted price. The first to claim by commenting, will get the first option of purchase (ie. amount and color, etc.) There will be some items that will sell by auction style to the highest bidder (this will be announced prior to the item selling). All bidding is to be in at least $5 increments. 1, 2, or 3 minutes of time will be allowed per item, Tom will decide the allotted time per items, at the end of the time (buzzer beeps) the high bidder is the winner and the winning bidder will be announced. The winner will be determined by our sale device only. Please remember you always see your comments first on your own device.
**THERE WILL BE A DELAY IN THE VIDEO FEED BETWEEN US AND THE VIEWERS - IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU BID AS HIGH AS YOU ARE WILLING TO GO**

2. Be sure to private message your email address and your shipping address by the end of the auction so that an invoice can be sent to you. Due to the large amount of items, invoice processing may take a couple of days. Invoices may be paid via PayPal or Debit/Credit Cards only. You do not have to have a Paypal account, Paypal is used as the processing service only.

3. Merchandise will be shipped either UPS or USPS Priority, at buyer’s expense. If you would like to make pickup arrangements, please be sure to private message the Moores Horse Company page. Pickup available by appointment ONLY and will be at Moore’s Horse Company, 11771 US Hwy 223, Onsted, Michigan.

The sale will start at 11:00 am EST and we will sell items in the following order. Please take note that items listed in each time slot are NOT the ONLY items to sell during that time, they will, however, be the main focus.

12:00 pm – Headstalls – Over 50 to sell!
1:00 pm – Spurs, Spur Straps and Stirrups
2:00 pm – NEW Winter Blankets
3:00 pm – 1 HOUR BREAK
4:00 pm – Miscellaneous Assorted Tack
6:00 pm – New COMPLETE Bridles
7:00 pm – Saddle Pads/Blanket (Show and Work) and Cowhides

**Illinois Horse Fair 2021**
The IHF21 committee has been working hard with Illinois Officials to be able to again hold our Horse Fair. We are heartbroken to announce that with the restrictions from COVID-19 and the uncertainty of what restrictions will be in place in March as well as the ongoing facility upgrades at the Illinois State Fairgrounds we will be unable to host the Illinois Horse Fair in 2021. Organizers are working to bring other entertainment and educational opportunities to our members and horse lovers throughout Illinois for 2021 and we do plan on a full-fledged Horse Fair for IHF22!

Midway Trailer Sales

Midway Family please keep an eye out for a 2019 Bison, charcoal in color, 40ft long 3 horse trailer. It had Illinois plates. Was stolen from Midway Trailer Sales , Litchfield, Il at approximately at 10:30 on 10/05. Please call Dave Bormida at 217-825-7029 with any information. A reward of $1000 will be offered, but for more information on the reward please contact number listed above. Photo below is of the stolen trailer, and the truck that was used to take it.

Horsemen’s Council of Illinois - Statement on COVID-19 Reopening Phase-1

May 1, 2020 Governors Executive Order https://www2.illinois.gov/Pages/Executive-Orders/ExecutiveOrder2020-32.aspx
Per a statement from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity regarding horses:
“It is not specifically spelled out in the Executive Order, but it is our department’s legal opinion that horses need exercise and to be “worked out” to keep their muscle. Minimum activity, such as riding horses, is allowed. But the stables should not be open to business for sales or recreational purposes.”
The intent of the Phase-1 update is to recommend boarding barns open with barn specific guidelines so that horse owners have access to their horses. This is primarily in response to the opening of the state parks.
All recommendations are to be considered guidance and not legal advice. For further questions pertaining to your situation, please contact your Local Health Department or the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Recommendations for Barn Owners and Managers:
• Post your facility’s cleaning and disinfecting plan where everyone can see it. Include information regarding public areas (i.e. bathrooms will be open; the viewing room and kitchen will be closed.)
• Establish guidelines for use of communal equipment, tack, and grooming supplies
• Open to owners only (no visitors at this time) to limit the number of people coming into your facility
• Schedule appointments with boarders that work best for your facility, clientele, and your disinfecting schedule
• If possible, set hours for boarders to limit essential employees’ exposure (this may include feeding and turnout times, or when the vet/farrier/chiro is onsite)
• Exercising horses is considered essential
• Check with your insurance carrier to see what activities are covered by your policy during this time

Recommendations to Owners whose horse(s) are at a boarding facility:
• Be aware of others in the barn to maintain the 6’ distancing
• Wear masks per the Governor’s Executive Order when social distancing cannot be accommodated
• Read, respect and follow instructions from barn owners and managers
• Be aware of, and keep to, your allotted appointment time
• Refrain from touching your face and wash hands frequently

The extension of the stay-at-home order is difficult for all of us. Please remember although you can likely survive the Coronavirus, you might carry it to someone who might not be able to survive.

This is an unprecedented situation, but with cooperation and compliance from all, we can get through this and return to the full equine lifestyle we love and share.

The Horsemen’s Council of Illinois and our partner organizations, Cook County Farm Bureau, Chicago Veterinary Medical Association, Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, and the independent City of Chicago carriage operators are disheartened by the Chicago City Council’s vote to end the licensure of carriage horses. It is unfortunate for all involved that science-based arguments and facts were ignored in favor of the opinions of a small group of people who hold unfounded beliefs. It is a sad day when the animals that helped build this city are banned from its streets. This is the end of an era. If the city leaders would like to revisit this discussion in the future, we would like to provide them with well-researched and scientific facts about the working equine.

CITY OF CHICAGO TO VOTE WEDNESDAY MORNING -
The Chicago City Council, is meeting virtually at 10 AM on Wednesday, April 22nd, to vote on Ordinance O2019-4125. The result of this vote could end the long-held and beloved Chicago tradition of carriage horse rides downtown.

The Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association (IVSMA), the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and a coalition of other partners are IN OPPOSITION TO THE ORDINANCE which would deny the renewal of the business licenses for carriage horse companies .

AS ADVOCATES FOR ANIMAL WELFARE, THESE TWO VETERINARY ASSOCIATIONS SUPPORT THE CARRIAGE HORSE INDUSTRY IN CHICAGO. The horses are well cared for and undergo regular veterinary examination and inspection.

NOTICE FROM THE ILLNIOS STATE VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION:
"ISVMA has previously submitted comments on other versions of this ordinance, which have addressed the ability of horses to work, as well as their safety, care and welfare.

The language in this ordinance is the most recent version of the proposal to end the Chicago carriage horse industry. It specifically prohibits carriage horse license renewals as of Dec. 31, 2020 thus ending the ability of carriage horses to operate within city limits.

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT CHICAGO CARRIAGE HORSES -
CONTACT CHICAGO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS AND THE CHICAGO MAYOR

Use the following information to guide your talking points for an email or phone call to Chicago City Council Members and the Chicago Mayor to OPPOSE this ordinance:

• Chicago carriage horses are overseen by an equine veterinarian to ensure their health.
• Chicago carriage horses operate under very strict, protective measures to ensure content and healthy horses.
• Chicago carriage horses are already strictly regulated by the City of Chicago to ensure welfare and safety standards.
• Carriage horses are bred to work and it is evident that carriage horses enjoy their work.
• Studies have revealed health benefits to children and adults when experiencing contact with animals.
• In the last 25 years, no horses have been harmed while pulling a horse-drawn carriage in downtown Chicago.
• Horse drawn carriages are the last vestiges of our city’s heritage.
• A carriage ban eliminates jobs for both horse and owner.
• A carriage ban puts more restrictions on horses than on humans who operate pedicabs."

We had such a great turn out for the online judging contest let’s have an online halter class! 🌟First up will be HUNTER Conformation (Halter). Submit one profile picture of your hunter horse. Open to any breed, age or sex. If entries allow we will break out divisions. Photos for entries can be left in the comments with breed, age and sex. Submission need not be current, if you have a photo from last season please feel free to use it. Entry deadline is Friday, April 17, 5pm. 🏆Can’t wait to see all the beautiful hunters this week!

What a fun contest! Thank you to all who entered, we did have enough entries to do 2 age divisions!
The official results are 1-4-3-2 with cuts of 1-5-4. Thank you to all those that helped get this done! Congratulations to the Jr division winner Talisa Thomas and to the Sr division winner Tea Thomas. Great job everyone! Jr kids you all did a very impressive job on your reasons!
