We went out to a rescue-ish situation today. A large quantity of baby rats were surrendered to a local pet store after their owners pet snake passed. She no longer had use for the rats as she had been breeding to feed her snake.
The pet store manager thought the temperments to be too nice to be pet food, and reached out for assistance with attempting to re home them.
The babies are all super tiny. Iโm estimating them to be 3-4 weeks old. They are much smaller than my 5 week old litter that I have currently. We have them all tucked into their new little cage and we will be evaluating them to see if we can help place them in new homes.
They are getting started on some special diets to make sure they have proper nutrition and calories to grow and thrive. Just wanted to show off this little dude. He is one of my favorites from the bunch. ๐ฅน๐๐ค
We donโt typically do rescue situations. There can be risks of introducing unknown pathogens, parasites etc to our current rats. Many precautions have to be taken and it uses up our resources that we need for our rattery. We do every now and then get wind of people who need help and when we have the ability to help we do.
Stay tuned for updates on this guy and his siblings!
