The horses had all ran as a herd into the wooded area, where they have a clearing that is covered by the canopy of branches and leaves. Usually this is where they wait out storms and even the heat of the day. As soon as the winds hit, they all ran together to the lower part of the pasture—away from trees that were bowing and cracking—and are seen here standing together in a circle with their heads down.
They are experts at storm safety. Ever since the major tornadoes in 2011, we have concluded that horses are just as safe indoors as they are outdoors because they have such amazing survival instincts.
