A guest instructor, Kevin Hadfield, is coming to Kastle Equine in Campton, NH on Feb 12th. Message me if you're interested in a spot! Our barn is warm (literally and figuratively) and welcoming, with a full dressage court indoor arena that usually stays above 40 degrees. Heated tack area and bathrooms too! It’s a cozy place to spend a Sunday in February.

Official Bio: Kevin Hadfield runs a classical dressage training business, Hadfield Horses, out of Spring Willow Farm in Mendon, Massachusetts. Hadfield Horses focuses on horse and rider biomechanics, with emphasis on the horses mental education.

Kevin is a Bronze with distinction and silver medalist, as well as a silver bar medalist. Kevin was awarded the United States Dressage Association Elite Dressage seat medal, and won the dressage equitation finals with an 88 percent.

All four ponies went to the beach these past two weeks. Three had never been, but everyone did great! Outings and beach rides are a big part of our training because they are good for mind, body, and soul.

This quarantine situation has really gotten me down. We’ve had to cancel our plans to build the indoor arena because the banks are not doing construction loans anymore. I hope it will happen next year. We are regrouping to do a temporary outdoor and shed row barn to bring the horses home for the summer, and maybe build our new house when restrictions lift. I hate changing plans and I’m trying to overcome my disappointment.

The beaches also closed so no beach riding, and really limited riding all around. Shows and clinics are canceled, and I’m just in a funk. I know other people have it worse and I feel guilty for feeling so down, but feelings are feelings.

We did a company happy hour where we all sent in pictures of ourselves as young kids. This was my picture, and finding it made me feel the first real joy I’ve had in a long while. This was my first horseback ride. I think it was at the San Diego fair. I don’t remember it, but I look so incredibly happy. I’m going to work toward changing my outlook and getting back in touch with that feeling. I have a lot to be grateful for, and this too will pass.

I hope you all are safe and well❤️

Practicing just means more time with my favorite snoot. I had a long snuggle after our ride yesterday, when normally I’d be rushing to meet the hubby out for dinner.

Last Sunday we went to the beach (pics to come!!) then moved back to our summer board situation. I’ve had three amazing rides outside in the huge arena, which feels like absolute freedom after being cooped up all winter. The summer barn is just 10 minutes from my house, which I feel better about with all of the craziness. I can also bring Saga home if needed, but I’m hoping to avoid that. Just taking things day-by-day and carrot-by-carrot.

has a wonderful profile filled with pictures of her journey with her Thoroughbred Cross (and lots of other great pony pics too). They are such a lovely pair, and she also has great posts about body image and doing dressage for YOU and your own personal development, rather than to fit a certain mold. Plus, she has a podcast!
