Hot weather can be tough on our pets, but a few simple precautions can help keep them safe and comfortable.

🐾 Walk during the cooler morning or evening hours.
💧 Bring plenty of fresh water.
🌳 Stick to shady areas whenever possible.
✋ Check the pavement before heading out. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet's paws.

A little extra care can go a long way on days like today.

Fireworks are a highlight of the Fourth of July for many of us, but they can be one of the most stressful nights of the year for our pets.

A little preparation can go a long way. Bringing pets inside before fireworks begin, creating a calm space, securing doors and gates, and making sure your pet's ID tags and microchip information are up to date can help keep them safe throughout the holiday.

Ticks, fleas, and mosquitoes are all active during the warmer months here in Southern Maine, and they can pose risks to both pets and people.

A few simple habits can help keep your pets protected:

✔️ Use veterinarian-recommended flea, tick, and heartworm prevention

✔️ Check pets after walks, hikes, and outdoor adventures

✔️ Pay close attention to common hiding spots like the ears, collar area, paws, and between the toes

✔️ Avoid tall grass and brush whenever possible

✔️ Keep your yard maintained by trimming grass and reducing leaf litter

✔️ Watch for changes in appetite, energy level, mobility, or behavior and contact your veterinarian if you have concerns

Remember, tick checks are important, but they shouldn't replace preventative medications recommended by your veterinarian.
