We have a very special kitten who is now ready for adoption and seeking his perfect home. Lieutenant Dan, as we call him has been through so much at such a young age. When he was first found it was clear he needed some medical attention, it is believed that he may have been hit by a car. He had one broken leg and his other front leg is paralyzed from his accident we believe. He has been with us for quite some time now with his broken leg in a split to repair the fracture. Today he had repeat x-rays and was officially cleared for adoption and to keep his splint off for good. As for his other leg, it’s limp but he gets around great and causes no pain. At this time we are seeking a home who understands than in the future he could have complications with his limp leg if it started to cause him mobility issues or pain, but at this time our Veterinarians believe he can keep it! He Is around 5-6 months old at this time so he still has lots of kitten energy!

After all he has been though he has remained the sweetest kitten ever, always purring and seeking as much affection as he can get. If you think you could be a good match for Dan please go to our website and fill out an application🐾❤️

*Dan will only be available to be seen by appointment, he is not out on the adoption floor to keep him as happy and stress free as possible*

✨️ Feline Friday ✨️

Meet Jonah. Jonah is a friendly FIV positive cat. He came in as a stray and has been a resident of ours for many, many months. Jonah shows signs of overstimulation in his cage, he's hoping to be set free to find his forever home to stretch out on his new couch and take long naps just in time for those chilly winter days. Jonah has shown some interest in other cats but may also prefer to be the only pet. Jonah enjoys spending his days playing with ping pong balls (his favorite toy), eating yummy wet food, and getting his head scratched. He loves when our volunteers play with him using wand toys. Jonah has not been dog tested yet, and we believe he would be best in a home without younger children.

**A generous human has paid his adoption fee in hopes to find his forever home. ❤️

Apply to adopt Jonah on our website at Responsiblepetcare.org/cats

Our adoptable Mushu, had a playdate with staff pet Enzo today! Mushu shows interest in play time but still had lots of sniffing to do on his own. We are still accepting applications on Mushu, his best fit home would be someone who strives to improve his training as well as provide him a structured home where he feels very secure. Ideally no kids under the age of 16, we feel that would be very overwhelming for him. He would love to live with another dog who could respect his personal space but also have interest in playing.

Mushu is around 3 years old and believed to be a corgi x Australian Shepard mix. If you think he would be a good match for you please go to our website and fill out and adoption application🐾

As the end of summer approaches our shelter is still feeling extremly overwhelmed with the number of cats still coming in. Many shelters are all in the same boat, just trying to help as many cats as we possibly can. As of right now we are unable to take surrendered cats until we have some adoptions. This creates a very hard situation for community members who may need us to take their cats in for various reasons. Because of this we are discounting cat adoption fees! This will be going on until 9/7/25!
Adult cats- $139
Kittens- $179
All cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on rabies and distemper vaccines, up to date on flea and tick products, and received a series of dewormers.

We are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 12-4pm. Please give us a call at 207-743-8679 if you have any questions or go to our website and fill out an application so we can get you approved before coming in!

Our Story

Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills provides a safe and comfortable environment for dogs and cats from Oxford County, Maine that have become lost or have been abandoned.

Responsible Pet Care is a no-kill, non-profit shelter. All of the cats and kittens in our care need permanent homes and are available for adoption. Many of the dogs will be reunited with their owners; but some will require new homes.

Our shelter is equipped to care for 150 or more cats and kittens at any one time, and is always full to capacity. The dog area holds twelve to twenty at one time.

We take in and adopt an average of 400 cats and kittens per year. Incoming dogs average 150 per year. Many dogs are reunited with their owners. All adopted animals leave the shelter healthy, spayed/neutered, FeLV/FIV tested-cats, heartworm tested-dogs, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, and treated for internal and external parasites. This is all done at the expense of RPC.
