Learn about some of the history and traditions taking place at the Myopia Horse Show!

Top: Gordon Chickering Prince, pictured “parading the hounds” at the Myopia Horse Show. Gordon was a son of one of the original Prince brothers who founded the Myopia Hunt Club. Mr. Chickering Prince was MFH (Huntsman) from 1936-1940 and 1943-1945. His wife, Anna Prince, hunted the hounds while he was away at war- exhibiting a lengthy history of strong female leadership in Myopia Hunt.

Below: Samantha Stevens, the current Huntsman of Myopia Hunt Club, can be seen parading the hounds at the Myopia Horse Show just as Gordon did over 100 years before!

To see the Parade of Hounds, attend “Hunt Day” on Sunday, August 30th, 2026. Hunt Day is filled with experiences and competitions, inspired by traditions and techniques for success on the hunt field- and much more- at the 125th Myopia Horse Show!

The Myopia Horse Show is among the oldest horse shows in the United States. Its origins date back to the annual Labor Day games that the budding Myopia Club started in 1894. The formal horse show began in 1896- replacing the Labor Day Games’ competitions between farmer’s horses with a wide variety of classes meant to replicate the challenges of fox hunting. The show moved from the club’s grounds to the site it remains at today- the Myopia Schooling Fields.

If you did your math right, you might be wondering how this year is the 125th anniversary of the Myopia Horse Show. The show has been put on pause twice in history. First, a war-driven hiatus between 1942 and 1946. Second, during the 2020 pandemic. In the years since each pause, the show has continued to grow and flourish. We hope that this year is one of the best yet!

Please join us this August 29-30, 2026 at the historic Myopia Schooling Fields to enjoy the festivities, watch the fantastic competitors, and take part in one of the longest-running horse shows in the country: take part in a piece of local history!
