Grab your coffee, pull up a chair and sit yourself in the sunâwe have a story to share today. A moment of compassionate humanity where unknown strangers come together only to find themselves leaving as friends. Dedicated time given with no personal vestment aside of pure humanitarian acts. This is Elsaâs rescue story.
Last Friday, June 13, our rescue received a call from a WI caseworker supporting a mother and her kids. A tragic situation was unfolding and this precious family of 8 had to move quickly. Their dog Elsa could not come and we were asked to intake her. Unfortunately we were unable to receive any photos or videos to assess prior to placing in a foster home. We always assess first. It keeps everyone safe. Fast forward and a friend of owner agreed to pick her up then hold her while we organized an assessment with a dog/people. Before we could secure, the handler picked her up and whisked her away in her car. Elsa was terrified to lose her family foundation so she urinated in their brand new car. So they simply pulled over and discarded Elsa in a park near her old home. No collar. No identification. No one to steward her. She cracked wide open. Full blown FLIGHT MODE. She ran and refused to come to anyone. Neighborhood cameras picked up her little body in shadows of nighttime canvassing. She was searching for her family. Her kids. Her everything. For 5 days we worked daily to find her. We placed posted, gave out flyers, worked with Kenosha residents who came out with support. Calls were made to give us updates of her movements.
Fast forward and enter Billy's Posse who came our way through the support of Lost Dogs of Wisconsin. These 2 organizations immediately jumped into action with calls, texts and acts of determination. Kaley was our beacon and lifeline. Dropped a trap with cameras within hours of connecting with our rescue. Worked with us and one house to establish our station with trap. Elsa did us a solid by walking in that very night ahead of the storms coming through today. She is STUNNING! Eyes that look clear into your soul. Sweet. Submissive. Kisses upon kisses. This is the dog who ran from anyone who called her name. Searching for her family only to find strangers. This is no random act but one designed by the hearts of angels. Elsa is safe because many stopped to care. To show up. To save.
Our girl is covered in an array of cuts, bruises and some wounds that need attention. She has been given a bath and found a place to welcome the sun today. You see she is restarting her journey tucked into our Common Ground embrace. The sun sets fire to her past so she can welcome a new future. One that will be her happily ever after.
Feel like being a part of her story? Donate today to help our team vet and heal this shining star. She has such miles to go before sheâs done. Stay close as we introduce Elsa to our rescue family. Her foster family is ready to welcome her into their home to heal.
Thank you to the ones giving more than they receive in life. You are givers with a purpose that reshapes our communities. And propels our humanity.
