Operation North State’s Peer Fishin’ Festival offers Wounded Warriors and Disabled Veterans a free and fun fishing experience, and they could use your help.
Operation North State (ONS), its numerous and generous supporters and volunteers are calling on North Carolina’s people (especially those in the Oak Island/Southport/Brunswick County beach communities) to support the upcoming 6th Annual Peer
Fishin’ Festival on Ocean Crest Pier at Oak Island.
From Monday, October 18 through Friday, October 22 (rain or shine), Operation North State, Ocean Crest Pier and the community will host 450 to 500 folks (Wounded Warriors, DVets, their respective guests, sponsors, pier mates and volunteers) for fun fishing and fellowship. The Peer Fishin’ Festival is one of eight such Fishin’ Festivals hosted throughout North Carolina each year by ONS.

According to Operation North State’s founder/volunteer, Terry Snyder, “The event is being held at the request of the Wounded Warriors and DVets who have fished in ONS’s Top Shelf Fishin’ Festivals throughout the state the past nine years. There is nothing else like our Fishin’ Festivals’ schedule in the country. The Wounded Warriors/DVets are so excited to have the opportunity to return to Ocean Crest Pier this year and include their families and friends in the festival as well. Likewise, our sponsors and volunteers are honored to be part of the festival and have the opportunity to give-back.”
For the past two years, the Peer Fishin’ Festivals were cancelled due to COVID and storm-damage cleanup activities in the area.

“Operation North State is grateful to the pier mates from the community for providing their time, expertise and equipment,” Snyder says.

Want to participate?

6th Annual Peer Fishin’ Festival
October 18 to 22

The festival is free to Wounded Warriors/DVets and their respective guests. Each Wounded Warrior and one guest will receive free daily fishing passes.

To participate, send an email to [email protected] or call (336) 764-5967. Provide your name, email address, telephone number and the North Carolina town you call home.

Can you help?

ONS is requesting assistance and participation in the festival as follows:
Need organizations to serve as Daily Pier Hosts – responsible for providing lunch and administration of the daily registration desk and meet and greet duties throughout the day.
Serve as a Pier-Mate: assist a group of Wounded Warriors/DVets on the pier
Donate product, services and/or cash for the dinner, snacks, beverages and prizes.
Provide a covered dish for the breakfast or lunch (the covered dishes are so popular)
Come visit the pier Monday, October 18 through Friday, October 22 and cheer on these special Americans.

For additional information and/or to show your support, contact Terry Snyder, ONS founder/volunteer at [email protected] or call (336) 764-5967.

Good Morning! I know some of you will be participating in the Bass Tournament this Saturday at Graham-Mebane Lake. Good Luck in catching the biggest fish!! So on Sunday, before you put your gear away, look over your reels and see if they need to be cleaned (due to lake water goo) or repaired (due to that big one that stripped a gear or pawl) and look over your rods to make sure the tip and guides are in good shape for that next tournament. 336-213-3369 or [email protected] to let me know when you will be bringing your gear by!!

Good Morning! Thought I would post a wonderful picture from way back!! (an article from the Times-News around spring of 1990) This was when I was running Jack's Sport Shop and kept my boys with me. William is sitting on the floor watching TV and Christopher is sitting on the counter with me as I work on a reel. It was great to be able to have my children with me as I worked. And they are very supportive now as I get this business back up and going. So if you have rods and reels that need a checkup before you take that next fishing trip, give me a call 336-213-3369 or an email [email protected] to set up a time to bring your items by! Have a terrific Tuesday!!!!

So if you have old rods and reels or even a newer rod and reel that needs some loving care, give me a call 336-213-3369 or an email [email protected] to set up a time to get your gear to me!
