Just a friendly reminder with all the busy schedules and the start of a New Year coming. 😊 We wanted to let all our clients know that prescription requests and refills typically take 3-4 business days after the initial request. To ensure our staff and veterinarians can fill your prescriptions in a timely manner, please request prescriptions and refills well in advance to avoid running out of your horse’s necessary medication. For office pick-up requests, we will call, text, or email letting you know when the medication is ready for pick-up. And remember, it is important to stay up to date on your horse’s annual wellness exam to allow us to continue refilling their medications. 🐴

Dear Clients,

I am writing to let you all know that I will be resigning from Evergreen Equine at the end of the year to explore other career opportunities.

This was a difficult decision as I have truly enjoyed my time with the practice and especially with all of you and your horses. Our equine patients bring me great joy, and it has been very fulfilling to be a part of their care team. I have many wonderful memories of working with you and have enjoyed the good times as well as being there for the difficult times.

I have worked alongside some of the best veterinarians in the area during my time here and have full confidence you will be in excellent hands moving forward. For scheduling in 2024, please contact the office at 360-568-1114.

As veterinary technician week comes to a close, we here at Evergreen Equine want to take a moment to thank our wonderful technicians!

We are fortunate to have a fantastic group of equine enthusiasts, and chances are if you’ve ever had one of our DVMs visit your barn, you’ve been able to see our techs hard at work. Our technicians work diligently behind the scenes and are the backbone to what we do - they keep our DVMs safe, organized, and efficient all while providing compassionate care to our patients. They operate and maintain our equipment, order and organize our pharmaceuticals and supplies, process lab samples, and most importantly, handle and treat our equine patients with the highest quality of care - put quite simply, we could not do what we do without their help.

Lisa, Brittany, Grace, Sam, Annika, and Jenna - we appreciate everything you do and are so fortunate for what you bring to EEVP. Your commitment to our team and dedication to our patients help make the difference in the lives of the horses in our community, and we all are so very lucky to have you!

We have big news!

We are excited to announce that the Evergreen Equine Reproduction Center is moving to Woods Creek Training Center in Monroe! As we make this transition, we would like to thank Lervick Arabians for the many years of partnership with our breeding program.

With a new facility comes new opportunities. We look forward to being able to expand our number of available stalls with additional turnout. Feeding and horse care will be overseen by our veterinarians on a daily basis to ensure the utmost standard of care. Additionally, we will have our staff on-site both day and night to provide for the comfort and well-being of your horses.

Drs Brittany Davis, Jerry Washburn, and Rachel Micek will continue to offer our full range of breeding services, including supervised foaling, artificial insemination with cooled and frozen semen, embryo transfer, and stallion collection and semen processing. Our breeding season lasts from February 1st to August 1st, with pregnant mares to foal welcome at the start of the year.

Additionally, for the first time, we will be offering the option to bring your horse to us! Our facility will be available for scheduled appointments for lameness, dentistry, pre-purchase examinations, and other routine work. More information regarding scheduled haul-ins will be available soon.

It’s difficult for us horse doctors to admit we aren’t superhuman. We’re hardwired to be there for you and your horse whenever you need us. But we’re finally in the midst of an overdue reality check as a profession and admitting that our desire to be available 24/7 isn’t compatible with our own personal health and happiness.

The most significant pain point for many of us is caring for our clients during regular business hours and then being on call for emergencies after hours. If we are a single-doctor or small practice, this traditionally has been the case most nights of the week.

The good news is that the AAEP along with private veterinary practices and veterinary schools are focused on developing new models for emergency care which ease the strain on individual practitioners. This includes the growth of emergency cooperatives where two or more practices in a geographic area work together to share after-hours care, as well as more emergency-only practices and the use of tele-triage services to address client concerns after normal business hours.

As equine veterinarians reevaluate what after-hours care looks like for their practices, we know that the support of our clients is critical to creating a balance that works for both of us. If your horse doctor talks with you about changes in how after-hours care is delivered, we hope you’ll welcome the adjustments, knowing that this evolution of emergency care must take place in order for equine veterinarians to avoid burnout and continue to be available to treat all of our patients. We appreciate our partnership with you, and your horse does too!
