Training tip for the week, we focused on one simple idea: What dogs learn at home transfers into the real world. That’s why we started with:
• Calm at the door
• Better walks
• Settling in public spaces Because those moments are all connected. A dog that understands how to slow down, follow guidance, and settle at home is much more prepared to succeed in distracting environments.
Why outings can feel difficult Most dogs aren’t struggling because they’re stubborn. They’re struggling because the environment is exciting and they need clearer guidance. That’s why routines and communication matter so much. The more consistent the experience feels to your dog, the easier it becomes for them to stay calm and make better choices. Calm & Settling That’s why we teach “place” whether using a Klimb or a mat. Once the dog is comfortable at home, going to “place” now it’s time to take them out into public to a low stressful environment and practice what they have learned at home with positive rewards. This will allow them to see clear quite communication from you and know how to settle in a stressful environment. The key is to have clear communication with positive reinforcement.
