Exercise is important for dogs, but a fulfilling day isn’t just about burning off energy.

Dogs also benefit from opportunities to use their minds, interact socially, explore their environment, and have time to rest.

Finding a balance between physical activity, mental stimulation, social connection, and downtime can help support your dog’s overall well-being and give them positive outlets for their energy.

It's Responsible Dog Ownership Day! 🐾

Being a great dog parent starts with getting to know the dog in front of you. Their favorite ways to play, how they communicate, what makes them comfortable, and when they might need a little extra support.
As our dogs grow and change, their needs can change, too. Paying attention to those little things helps us give them happy, healthy, fulfilling lives.

What’s something your dog has taught you about being a dog parent? 💚

How often should you bathe your dog? 🛁🐾

For many dogs, every 4–6 weeks is a good starting point, but the right routine depends on their coat, activity level, age, skin health, and individual needs.

Regular bathing helps remove dirt, loose fur, and allergens while supporting healthy skin and a comfortable coat. Dogs with thick coats, heavy shedding, sensitive skin, or other specialized needs may benefit from a grooming routine tailored to them.

🎓 Training Tip Tuesday: Start with attention!

Before your dog can respond to a cue, they first need to be able to focus on you. One simple way to practice is to turn it into a game.

Toss a treat for your dog to chase and eat, then wait. When they turn their attention back to you, praise them and toss another treat in a different direction. As you repeat the game, your dog starts to learn that checking back in with you leads to something good.

Start somewhere quiet, then gradually practice around more distractions as your dog gets the hang of it.

A big shoutout to Mallory Johnson of Central Bark Charlotte Matthews for representing Central Bark on WBTV News, 🎉

Mallory joined the show to share expert tips for helping dogs adjust as kids head back to school and household routines begin to change. Back-to-school season can be a big transition for the whole family, including our four-legged family members. Changes in schedules and more time spent alone can be challenging for some dogs, but creating consistency and helping them gradually adjust to a new routine can make the transition easier.
