Does your dog have a
H O L I D A Y H A N G O V E R ? 😵‍💫
Here’re some easy tips to help everybody get back into balance!

1. Get plenty of rest… (as you can see, my Big Ben is the epitome of great snoozing habits!)😴💤

2. Create structure where it might’ve gotten a little out of whack from celebrations & scurrying about… Create scheduled nap time, scheduled feeding time & scheduled walk time so life seems more balaced for your pet
⚖️ ♎️

3. Put some fun training sessions back in as a way to stimulate & clarify your dog’s mind so things look more predictable & understandable again
🤩

4. Be sure your pet is on a good, healthy diet. If there had been any Christmas cookies gobbled up here & there, try to offer carrot sticks, sliced zucchini, and even apple slices as healthier treats 🥕🥒🍎

5. Make daily walks more important even if you have to bundle up to get out there and stretch your dog’s legs…
It will help relax your dog as well as take off some holiday hound pounds!🚶🚶‍♀️🚶🏾‍♂️

It’s the season of Light, of Hope and of Gratitude.

Cookies, candy, fudge, cakes and cupcakes etc. are classics for holiday celebrations…
They are also the reason dogs can end up in the hospital with G.I. upset, pancreatitis or worse… (chocolate being the most toxic!)

Dogs delight in tasty treats (who doesn’t??! 🤪🥴) so always be sure that your holiday treats are stored far from the reach of your Canine’s Culinary Curiosity!
😋
Even the most well trained dogs are prone to sneaking treats especially as they age and become forgetful, and boundaries that were once clear in their minds fade away…
(or the hypnotic lure of those inviting aromas scrambles their better judgment and counter surfing becomes an Olympic event 🙄)

“ G e n e r o u s “ G u e s t s
🤷‍♀️🙄😳
Be certain that any holiday guests know to refrain from sneaking your dog morsels from the table. Dinners like turkey and gravy and candied yams are high in fat and can cause pancreatitis or digestive upset and shouldn't cross your dog’s mouth.
(Any generous guests breaching this request are welcome to pay your vet bill later) 💰💵💰

Take care to balance your own diet so upset tummies and G.I. issues don’t affect you as well… pups are not the only ones who can suffer from eating the wrong things and overindulging… Remember to take care of yourself as well as you do your fur babies!

Question: Who gets the cake? 🎂
Answer: Chelby if she’s quicker than Ben’s tongue! 😆

Is your pet strung out, stressed out, bummed out or otherwise tangled up in holiday fatigue even before the holidays have begun? 😳

Not all pets appreciate the hullabaloo we create around this season and often they do better to be out the parties & the hustlebustle!… (note the chihuahuas’ easy-to-read expressions!) 😆

We still have some spaces available for the Christmas holiday where your pet will receive cuddles, walks, ballgames followed by peaceful holiday music in their accommodations… fully heated floors and special christmas treats make it all the more toasty & cozy!

The puppies (and kitties!) are nestled all snug in their beds…
While visions of snowflakes still dance around *our* heads…🙄❄️❄️

We knew we would have some sort of flakey ❄️ folly today but the amount was a surprise for sure!
Bill is still at the plowing & salting to be sure everything is clear for tomorrow’s arrivals!
Stay warm & safe y’all!✌️

W E A T H E R … or not…
Pups love to frolic in snow! ❄️
But most people do not like to drive in it… 🙄
That’s why for all of our families’ safety, we will alter check-in and check-out hours often when we have a concern of dicey weather…

We may ask you to come in early and comp that evening’s stay, or we may ask you to wait a day and comp that night’s stay… We are invested in keeping you safe and off treacherous roads when winter weather happens!

Our driveway is usually clean & clear as Bill works relentlessly to keep it passable & safe. But the timing of the clearing and the outside roads are our concern so we make alterations based on what we see for those conditions.

We understand it may not always be convenient to change your check-in and check-out times, but we want you to know how sincerely careful we will always be in winter for your safety. Thanks for your patience and for trusting us with your babies! 🙏🏻❄️✌️

When we say, “Home Away From Home” and everyone is family here at Tall Tails, we really mean it! It was Megan‘s birthday today and we all know she loves gigantic cookie cakes! 🍪🍰🍪
Felt great to sing happy birthday and watch the smiles in the office today 🩵
Megan thank you for everything wonderful that you bring to Tall Tails!

(Changed the title from “holiday” to “seasonsal” to cover more ground… frozen ground that is… 🥶

🔕 You might think this picture is hinting at “don’t eat yellow snow”… Which in fact is a very valid pro tip with the first snow of our season! ❄️ 😆❄️
However this week’s pro tip is certainly more about safety…

❄️ “Frosty Paws” is only a good phrase when referring to the frozen puppy treat…

The hair between puppy toes can cluster with snowballs and cause a biting pain to go straight into their feet… Think “ice cream headache“!

🧦 Puppy booties are very appropriate at this time of year though it will take some doing to get your dog used to it… ⚠️ Warning and disclaimer: if your dog is not good about feet being handled, if you’re going to lose fingers, an eye or your life, you may want to avoid this step ‼️

❄️Small dogs and older dogs are more prone to hypothermia than bigger dogs. Limit time out for potty breaks and walks

❄️ Your bigger dog won’t even appreciate their normal long walk in extremely cold temperatures… use your good judgment… this walk is not as important as their safety.
(Or… try walking without a coat and barefoot with them and see how it feels to be them…)

❄️ If you are in fact going out for a walk, consider how important dog coats are in colder temperatures for most dogs. Some of the longer haired, larger breeds (Huskies, Shepherds, Malamutes, Newfoundlands, Pyrenees, etc) are usually ok in the cold without a coat, but most of the dogs that you all have will require some sort of coat.

(Shout out to SnugPups at Snugpups.net for locally made fleece coats that are easy to put on, wash and are not only beautiful but also comfy cozy. My Libby loves her pink cupcake coat, Gina adores her plaid with a peplum, while Big Ben enjoys the earthy and masculine look of his pumpkin spice plaid)

❄️ And finally, if they’re not getting their normal physical exercise outside, consider walking them around in a dog friendly store for some social involvement, or do a fun-filled, treat-filled training session indoors with your dog to utilize their mental energy, create teamwork, give them some challenges, and create great manners while we’re waiting for the thaw that comes after Solstice with longer days & more sun…

Hang in there ‘cause…
the sun will come out tmrw…
or more likely in March 😳
