🐹 PSA for Guinea Pig Owners: Dry Skin Signs to Watch For 🐹
Dry or flaky skin is actually pretty common in guinea pigs and can happen for several reasons, including dry air, dusty bedding, low vitamin C, overbathing, or even mites/fungal infections. Some signs to watch for are dandruff-like flakes, excessive scratching, hair loss, redness, or scabs.
A few ways to help prevent skin issues: • Provide unlimited hay and vitamin C rich veggies
• Use soft, low-dust bedding
• Avoid frequent baths unless necessary
• Keep the cage clean and dry
• Monitor for changes in skin, fur, or behavior
If symptoms become severe or don’t improve, it’s always best to see an exotic vet since guinea pigs are very good at hiding discomfort. Just wanted to share in case this helps another piggie parent keep their little potato healthy and comfy. 💚🥬
