What a year 2025 was.
It was heavy. It was hopeful. It was heartbreaking.
But above all — it was transformational.
This year, 1,980 animals came through our doors.
Some walked in scared. Some were broken. Some came in with nothing but the will to survive. And we fought for every single one.
Because of the dedication, compassion, and sheer determination of this community — and with Best Friends Animal Society tracking our progress — we can finally say something we never thought we’d be able to say:
Harrison County Animal Control achieved No-Kill numbers in 2025 without compromising public safety or the animals health.
90% of the animals who arrived here were saved.
For a shelter that once carried the weight of having the lowest save rate in West Virginia…
For a place that used to be whispered about, avoided, or judged…
This is a triumph that reaches straight to the heart.
This year, we faced moments that will never leave us.
We fought abuse and neglect cases — and won.
We lost animals whose suffering was too far gone, and those losses still sit heavy with us.
We watched a goat deliver her babies in the middle of the shelter.
We bottle-fed litters, bathed muddy puppies, cleaned wounds, dried tears, and whispered to animals who had never known kindness.
We begged for rescue help.
We begged for adopters.
We begged because those lives mattered — every single one.
And you answered.
You showed up.
You refused to let their stories end the way they began.
You helped rewrite the narrative of Harrison County Animal Control.
From a place once defined by loss
to a place defined by hope.
As we stand at the end of this unforgettable year, our hearts are full — not because it was easy, but because it was worth it.
Here’s to every life saved.
And here’s to a No-Kill 2026, together. 🐾💙
