Today we celebrate the whiskers, the purrs, the biscuit-making paws, and the cats who rule our lives (and occasionally let us sit on their couch). 💛

Meet Koko! This gorgeous 7-year-old Belgian Malinois was originally seen by Dr. Diamond for nasal planum dermatosis.

Not only is her nose looking better, but Koko is living her best life; she just learned to catch a frisbee mid-air like a total pro on her summer trip to Sweden! 🥏🐾

From vet visits to victory laps — we love seeing our patients happy, healthy, and having summer adventures. Keep soaring, Koko! 💙✨

🐾 Charlie’s Glow-Up! 🐾

Say hello to Charlie, a 14-year-old mini poodle warrior who’s living with congestive heart failure and battled ear and skin infections for over 5 years. But one month after his visit with us, this sweet senior is thriving—and looking better than ever!

✨ “Charlie is doing great—much less itching, and his skin and hair feel and look so, so much better. You and your technician were amazing. In fact, the minute I walked in the door, the entire experience was great. Thank you, and Charlie thanks you as well. —Happy Pet Mommy” ✨

From constant discomfort to a total glow-up, Charlie is now feeling fresh, fluffy, and fabulous. We're so proud to be part of his transformation!

🐾 Meet Harvey — the One-Eared Wonder! 🐾

Harvey is a special patient of Dr. Diamond’s — and he’s got a story as unique as his look! His mom, Olivia, was so inspired by his sweet spirit and resilience that she wrote a children’s book all about him! 📖💛

Even more special? Olivia gifted our team a signed copy of the book, and we are absolutely honored. Her story about Harvey celebrates uniqueness, kindness, and the beauty in being different — a message we truly love.

Thank you, Harvey and Olivia, for sharing your journey with us! 🐶💫

🚿🐾 Myth Busted: “You can overbathe your pet” 🐶🐱

Think bathing your pet too often will dry out their skin or cause irritation? Not true — if you’re using the right products!

🔹 Medicated or veterinary-recommended shampoos are formulated to support skin health, not strip it
🔹 Pets with allergies, infections, or chronic skin issues may need frequent baths — even multiple times a week!
🔹 The key is using a gentle, appropriate shampoo, applying the shampoo gently in the direction of hair growth (do not scratch or aggressively lather), leaving shampoo in contact for 10 minutes, and most importantly, rinsing with COOL water. Cool water is anti-itch and anti-inflammatory, whereas warm water can dry out your pet and make your pet feel more itchy.

So don’t fear the bath! 🛁 If your pet has a dermatologic condition, regular bathing is often one of the best things you can do to help them heal and feel better.

Got questions about your pet’s skin? We’re here to help! 💬

🐾🎇Fireworks = Fun for Us, Stress for Pets 🎇🐾
Keep pets cool, calm, & safe this holiday!

⭐️Create a Chill Zone: Choose a cozy spot—crate or closet—with blankets/toys & soft music or a fan to muffle noises .

⭐️Exercise them EARLY: Tiring them out before festivities begin helps reduce anxiety later
⭐️Distractions + Comfort: Stuff Kong toys, offer treats, and stay nearby—your calm presence means the world

☀️ Summer Heat & Your Pet’s Skin: What You Need to Know! 🐾

As temps rise, so do skin issues in our furry friends! Heat, humidity, and outdoor allergens can trigger flare-ups of itchiness, skin and ear infections, and hot spots—especially in pets with underlying skin conditions.

🐶 Common summer dermatology concerns:
✔️ Allergic flare-ups
✔️ Hot spots, skin and ear infections
✔️ Paw pad burns from hot pavement
✔️ Ear infections, especially in dogs with underlying allergies that like to swim
✔️ Canine dorsal thermal necrosis. This is a condition where the skin on a dog’s back (usually over the spine or shoulder area) gets damaged or even dies due to exposure to too much heat, especially from the sun or hot surfaces. It occurs most commonly in dogs with dark fur or skin who live in high altitudes or areas with high radiant heat.
👩‍⚕️ Our veterinary dermatology team is here to help keep your pet comfortable and itch-free all summer long. Early treatment and prevention can make a world of difference!
🌿 Tip: Rinse paws after walks, keep ears dry, and avoid peak sun hours when possible.

Today, we're highlighting our brave patient, Loa! She recently visited Dr. Diamond for a case of papillomatosis on her paw. Papillomatosis often appears as wart-like growths and can be uncomfortable for our furry friends. Loa was painful and limping before treatment. After treatment, Loa's paw has returned to normal, and she is back to her normal playful self.
