☀️ Summer Heat & Your Pet’s Skin: What You Need to Know! 🐾
As temps rise, so do skin issues in our furry friends! Heat, humidity, and outdoor allergens can trigger flare-ups of itchiness, skin and ear infections, and hot spots—especially in pets with underlying skin conditions.
🐶 Common summer dermatology concerns:
✔️ Allergic flare-ups
✔️ Hot spots, skin and ear infections
✔️ Paw pad burns from hot pavement
✔️ Ear infections, especially in dogs with underlying allergies that like to swim
✔️ Canine dorsal thermal necrosis. This is a condition where the skin on a dog’s back (usually over the spine or shoulder area) gets damaged or even dies due to exposure to too much heat, especially from the sun or hot surfaces. It occurs most commonly in dogs with dark fur or skin who live in high altitudes or areas with high radiant heat.
