It’s National Collie Day! The Collie’s origins are traced to Scotland and northern England, where they were originally bred to herd sheep. These early Collies were prized for their endurance, intelligence, and ability to work independently in tough terrain. Here are five facts about this hard-working breed!

1. There Are Different Types of ColliesThe most recognized types are the Rough Collie (with a long, flowing coat) and the Smooth Collie (with a short, dense coat). Other related breeds include the Border Collie, known for its unmatched herding ability, and the Bearded Collie.

2. They’re Incredibly IntelligentCollies consistently rank as one of the smartest dog breeds. They’re quick learners, eager to please, and excel in obedience training and canine sports.

3. Collies Have a Strong Instinct to ProtectWhile Collies are gentle and friendly, they also have a deep instinct to protect their family and can be great watchdogs. They often form close bonds with children and are known for being watchful, patient, and caring.

4. They Were Once Called “The Scottish Sheepdog”Before the breed was officially known as the Collie, these hardworking dogs were commonly referred to as Scottish Sheepdogs, a nod to their roots and main job in the countryside.

5. Lassie Was Based on a Real DogWhile Lassie is a fictional character, her stories were inspired by real-life tales of courageous Collies. The first Lassie movie, Lassie Come Home, came out in 1943 and helped define the breed’s legacy as a brave and faithful companion.

National Kitten Day on July 10 purrfectly celebrates the cuddly warmth of a kitty. The miniature fur balls of energy snuggle their way into our hearts with no effort at all. Within a flick of their tiny ears, we're in love.

National Kitten Day reminds us that while kittens are well equipped to find their way into our hearts, many don't find homes. They're abandoned at shelters, on the side of the road or wild and feral. Spaying and neutering our pets, including our cats, is vital to their health and keeping the stray population down.

🎆🐾 Firework Safety Tips 🐾🎆
Let’s be fur real—most pets don’t enjoy fireworks. The loud noises, flashing lights, and chaos can cause stress and anxiety, and every year we see an increase in pets who panic and go missing around the 4th of July.
Here’s how you can help your furry family stay safe:
✅ Keep pets indoors during fireworks
✅ Make sure they’re wearing a collar with ID tags
✅ Double check that microchip info is up to date
✅ Create a calm, secure space with their favorite things
✅ Talk to your veterinarian now about anti-anxiety options—DO NOT wait until July 3rd! Appointments fill up quickly.

Planning ahead means more peace of mind—for you and your pets. Let’s keep them safe, calm, and home where they belong. 💙🐶
