I just wanted to do a shout out to Cameron, who came over 2 x this week to walk my crazy pit pull mix Fancy Mavis in the POURING rain because I was super busy. This was a huge help to me - it takes a village sometimes to raise the pups. Thanks Cameron for the care and attention on short notice. Nice Umbrella, BTW :-).
Hello, thank you for adding me. I am searching for help mon, thurs, and friday from 630am-530 ish pm to snuggle with my DEAF Italian Greyhound. He needs to be around people. He is super mellow, once he knows the place (a couple visits) and sleeps the majority of the day. He hates walking in the cold, and only needs a few brief potty breaks. He is quite fragile and due to being deaf, is safest around dogs that weigh no more than 12lbs. If you are able to help me out I will be grateful, and youll enjoy a lap warmer! I can drop off and pick up. Thank you. IM me if interested.
Just a reminder to keep those holiday sweets out of reach of your pets. DANGERS INCLUDE CHOCOLATE/COCOA, PEPPERMINT - AND THEIR WRAPPERS, AND XYLITOL (FOUND IN LITE SWEETENERS):
Shared from Dr. Jeff Werber, DVM:
Yes! Dogs, just like humans, are drawn to the smell and taste of sugary foods.
And that’s not all. Dogs can taste the same four flavor groups that we can: sweet, sour, salty, and bitter.
Anatomically speaking, their taste buds aren’t as refined as ours, but their sense of smell blows us out of the water.
Dogs have 220 million olfactory receptors.
Their sense of smell is so sensitive that they can probably pick out some of the individual ingredients in those gingerbread cookies you’re eating... including the sugar and cinnamon.
However, as pet parents, we know that just because a dog wants something… doesn’t mean they should actually eat it.
Because the holidays are always packed with sweets of all kinds, I want to give you a warning about some of the most common snacks you want to keep away from your dog.
I’ll start with the obvious: Chocolate.
Most people know to keep their dogs away from chocolate, but there’s one type of chocolate that you really need to be careful with.
Here’s why:
It boils down to one ingredient: theobromine, a bitter alkaloid of the cacao plant.
Theobromine can be toxic to dogs, causing symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, an abnormal heart rhythm, and seizures. And these complications can be fatal.
Chocolate candies with high theobromine content are typically dark, bittersweet chocolates… but I recommend keeping ALL holiday chocolates far away from your furry friends…
But it’s not the only winter favorite that can be dangerous for dogs.
Peppermint, for example, is EVERYWHERE this time of year.
Candy canes, starlight mints, peppermint bark… It’s even a popular coffee flavor!
However, if you’re thinking about sharing with your four-legged family members… don’t.
Peppermint can lead to vomiting and diarrhea... and their wrappers present an additional risk. Plastic wrappers can get stuck in the digestive tract and cause a blockage, which can be harmful to your dog.
So it would be best if you didn’t leave candies OR their wrappers where your curious pup can reach, like on your coffee table.
Finally, there’s one danger I’ve spoken about before… but it’s so dangerous it’s worth mentioning again…
It’s hidden in a wide variety of sugar-free candies, “lite” desserts, and even brands of peanut butter:
Xylitol.
This sweetener can cause severe stomach upset, lethargy, loss of coordination, loss of appetite, and seizures.
That means no sugar-free marshmallow snowmen for Fido.
Whether you’re stuffing sweets into a stocking, handing out gelt (chocolate coins), baking snowmen cookies with your kids, or treating yourself to discounted gift boxes of candy…
It’s easy to keep your best friend safe if you keep it all out of paws’ reach.
From our pack to yours!

Any ties will be decided by a tie-breaker vote.
Note: Adults are also welcome (and encouraged!) to enter the contest, and while they won't be eligible for prizes, they will be showing their support for a wonderful organization that feeds more than 2,000 pets every month with eight tons of donated pet food delivered by volunteers to low-income senior housing complexes, community centers, and food banks!
Please be on the look out for our friend's dog that ran off after his owner was hit by a car in Belltown. He is just 5 months old and is scared. Contact Mariangela Abeo.
And we adore even the aloof ones!
