AZ Veterinary Dental Specialists

AZ Veterinary Dental Specialists We are proud to provide high-quality specialty oral care in Arizona We provide general and specialized dental care and oral surgery for dog and cats.

At Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists, we are all pet owners, and very much understand it can feel uncomfortable to bring your pet to the vet dentist. At our three Phoenix area locations, our doctors are board-certified specialists in veterinary dentistry and are highly experienced in every aspect of veterinary dentistry including pet dental cleanings, periodontal disease, fractured teeth, oral

cancers, and oral-maxillofacial trauma, and anesthesia. Do Painful Dental Conditions Develop Gradually or Suddenly? Many painful dental conditions develop gradually, and are more common in middle-aged and older pets. As a result, behavior that the owner interprets as “acting grumpy” may be the result of dental pain. Owners often observe that their pet acts “years younger” following dental treatment. What are the Signs of Oral and Dental Diseases in Dogs and Cats:
• Biggest sign - Bad breathe
• Loose teeth or teeth that are discolored or covered in tartar
• Your pet shies away from you when you touch the mouth area
• Drooling or dropping food from the mouth
• Loss of appetite or loss of weight
• Bleeding from the mouth

How Does My Pet Keep His Teeth Healthy? In addition to your pet’s annual dental check-ups, regular pet dental care at home is an important part of maintaining your dog or cat's oral health. As well, we carry a variety of Veterinary Oral Health Council approved dietary products to help you keep your pet's teeth as healthy as possible. Today we’re saying goodbye to Dr. Ha as she steps into a new and exciting role opening a Dental & Oral Surgery for Animals Thrive specialty practice in Sacramento, California.

Dr. Ha been such an important part of our AVDS family - known for her kindness, humor, steady clinical judgment, and genuine care for every pet and family she meets. Across her time in Peoria, Gilbert, and Scottsdale, every team she’s worked with has felt the same way: she brings a calm, thoughtful presence that makes a real daily impact.

We’ll miss the personal touches too, like her love of cooking, her amazing cake pops, and the warmth she brings into any room 👩🏼‍🍳 🍡 🥰

While we’re sad to see her go, we’re incredibly proud of her and grateful for everything she has poured into AVDS. Watching her bring a brand new veterinary dental practice to Sacramento is going to be something truly special. They’re gaining a remarkable clinician and an even better human.

Thank you for everything, Dr. Ha. We’ll be cheering you on and wishing you nothing but success in California. ☀️

This week, we’re celebrating the leaders who keep our hospitals grounded and always moving forward.

Practice Managers bring structure, support, and consistency to everything we do - from patient care to team well-being to the daily flow of each of our hospitals.

We’re proud to highlight the four leaders who guide each of our AVDS locations:
✨Jess – Tucson
✨Erin – Gilbert
✨Kelli – Peoria
✨Trish – Scottsdale

Thank you for the clarity, compassion, and steadiness you bring to AVDS every day. Your work makes an incredibly meaningful difference for our teams, clients, and patients.

Happy Practice Manager Week!💙

Choosing the right dental diet can make a big difference in your pet’s oral health. 🪥

Check out this post featuring a few of our recommended VOHC-approved diets that use unique kibble shapes and textures.

These diets are specially formulated to help clean teeth as pets chew, reducing plaque and tartar over time. Feeding pets a dental diet is an easy way to support daily dental care between professional cleanings.

If you’re unsure which formula is right for your pet, we’re always here to help guide you!

Financing your pet’s dental care just got easier. 💳

All four AVDS locations now offer an exclusive CareCredit benefit that increases your odds of approval by 15% when you apply using the hospital’s unique QR code. 📞

Ask our front desk team during your next visit. It’s just another way we’re reducing barriers and helping pets get the care they need, when they need it.

At 13 years old, this sweet Golden Retriever named Knox was diagnosed with nasal squamous cell carcinoma - a potentially fatal disease. 🥺

Thankfully Knox had access to AVDS's Dr. Michael Balke who is one of only about 30 specialists in the world with the education, skills, and advanced expertise in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) to help a dog with Knox's condition.

Dr. Balke performed a nasal planectomy to remove all traces of cancer and we're happy to report that Knox has made a full recovery. Today, he’s healthy, happy, and living his best life with his family. 🦮

Stories like Knox’s remind us how specialized veterinary dentistry can make happy endings more accessible than ever. 💫

It was great spending the afternoon with the team at North Central Animal Hospital for 2 hours of in-office CE! 👩‍🏫

Dr. Montebello and Kelli Smith from Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists hosted an in-person continuing education session at North Central Animal Hospital covering dental charting, prophylaxis, and radiograph techniques.

A hearty thank you to Dr. Hillary Frank, Dr. Sarah Kenyon, and the entire North Central team for welcoming us into your hospital and for your dedication to advancing dental care for pets. 🦷

We know “extractions” can sound scary, but for most pets, having diseased teeth removed is what helps them feel like themselves again. Once painful teeth are gone, their appetite and energy bounce back quickly - sometimes you can see the difference (and the relief) almost overnight. 😌

Halloween is all about the fun and festive treats 🎃👻
But as tempting as it is to share the festivities with your little ones, please remember: candy and pets don’t mix. Chocolate, xylitol, and even hard candies can be toxic or cause serious dental injuries like fractured teeth or choking. This Halloween, keep the candy bowl out of paws’ reach and let your pets celebrate with a pet-safe treat.
Wishing everyone a spooky (but safe!) Halloween from all of us at Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists! 💙 🦷
