Deer season is here, and so are we for you! Give us a call for all your taxidermy needs. Caping services offered as always. We are currently buying a limited amount of capes as well, or credit off your European mount. Must be from mature deer, with next to zero damage.

Here’s a rundown on caping a deer. Cut the skin around the leg at the knee, then slice down the back of the leg, where the white and brown hair meet. Continue a straight cut off the leg and onto the rib cage. Where the sternum ends (or even further towards the rear of the deer) cut around the body perpendicular to the leg cut. Those are the only skin cuts to be made. Do not cut up the chest onto the brisket. When field dressing, do not split the ribcage. Peel the skin down towards the head, like pealing a banana. Continue to skin down towards the head till you reach the skull neck junction, or as close as you can get, as this area can become stiff. Cut through the neck to disconnect cape and head from carcass. Remember, it’s far easier for me to cut extra skin off, but I can not add what is missing.
