Sometimes you have to make certain pieces work due to the uniqueness or rarity. This is a really cool cross fox that unfortunately was slipping on the left side of the body and the legs. Pulling the tail down helped cover the one leg with the noticeable spots, and the backside will against the wall. Fortunately for me and the customer, the right side showed well enough to save.

Just a PSA (I feel like a broken record here) do not split up through the sternum. If you do, it can be sewed up and it’ll be hidden with ease due to the brisket hair pattern. If you have questions call, don’t take someone’s word that it’s no good. This cape was brought in and he was told it wasn’t going to be able to be saved, that couldn’t be more further from the truth. In this case I’ll sew a couple inches and you’ll never know.

I’m starting to get allot of calls for ducks and geese, specifically Canada geese. I don’t take in Canadas anymore because I don’t enjoy working on them. That being said, if I did, I wouldn’t be accepting them until a little later in the season. Right now birds are just developing their nuptial plumage. That means that a majority of that bird is loaded with pin feathers. These birds, in my opinion are not a bird you want to mount. In another month, you can start looking at mountable birds, as a majority will have completed this cycle. I’m going to throw some shops under the bus here, some if then will accept your birds and take your money, they will also chuck that bird and call shops like mine later on looking for a replacement. Personally I can’t stand that. Say no the first time, and inform the customer. As a customer, harvest the right bird, and get that mounted. There’s always firsts, I get it, but you’ll have fun dealing with a bug infested mess for the first time also. As always, be smart and shoot straight.
