When Perry started running GRRR back in 2019, one of the first adoptions he did was Oliver. Today we ran into Oliver at Dr. Mulvey’s office while there with Gregory. Oliver is as cute as ever and it’s always wonderful to see our adopted dogs flourishing in their forever homes.

From rescue to forever in 72 hours!
If you read our post on Saturday about a paraplegic dog named Cocoa; rescued from living outdoors with the use of only two legs, you know that this was a very special little dog. Today, 72 hours later, a very special person decided to be his dad and it’s a match made in heaven. Tim is our extraordinary groomer who does all the GRRR dogs at Bentley’s Habersham Village. Tim has renamed him Gregory for his happy new life ahead. Tomorrow is vetting day with Dr. Mulvey and we will keep you posted on his medical reports. We are over the moon with happiness regarding this union of two loving souls. Thank you Tim for recognizing the sweetness of Cocoa and not letting his handicap deter you from loving him.

When we found out Thursday that blind Majorie’s life was in jeopardy at CCAS, we pulled her out and asked the community for a foster. Today on Father’s Day, Marjorie went to her new foster home with two foster dads and their two dogs. We are over the moon with happiness for Marjorie and are so thankful to her new dads for recognizing the sweetness, kindness and love in Marjorie and didn’t let her handicap interfere with their decision to foster her. What a great day.
BTW - Marjorie is the dog in the middle. She was groomed by Tim yesterday and starts her new life free of mats and neglect. Next stop? The vet later this week.

Patches is seven years old and fifteen pounds in size. Patches’ owner has had a series of strokes and is immobile. Patches is unable to go outside and management of the housing is threatening eviction if Patches is not rehomed. We at GRRR are in need of a local foster.
- No history with cats.
- Has been an only dog but has interacted with other small dogs.
- Time is of the essence.
- Serious inquiries to foster please. We continue to receive offers for other dogs but of late they turn into dead ends which makes it challenging. DO NOT OFFER to help in the comments section, rather, send a text to (912) 695-2415
- Foster application found at: https://www.grrrsavesdogs.org/volunteer

Good evening. It’s Perry at GRRR. These pictures were taken a day ago of a little paraplegic dog living outside in the elements 24/7. His spine was broken by a dog attack and he now lives with the use of only his front legs as a paraplegic. We believe that he has never seen a vet. This little dog was in dire need of rescue and love.

Cocoa’s life was crap and needed rescue but despite our challenge of obtaining foster homes, we knew we needed to act. Finding help of late is a case of people wanting to dip their toe in the water but very few wanting to jump in and help. Did we let that deter us from getting him out of that situation today? No. Despite an overload of rescues at our homes, little Cocoa is sleeping tonight in a warm bed next to mine and didn’t have to be outside on another stormy night. I pray he isn’t heartworm positive. A vet visit next week will tell all.

He’s safe and being loved as of tonight. Tomorrow I’ll post pictures of him with us. See you tomorrow.

Four year old Tiger and seven year old Darcy were surrendered to the GRRR Georgia Rescue yesterday. Their parent was unable to care for them due to declining health.

We have a big task list ahead, grooming, vetting, spay and neuter for the two of them. Upon completion we will be seeking a forever home for the pair. Stay tuned for updates. Welcome Tiger and Darcy!

Marjorie came is as a stray to Chatham County Animal Services will not have a good ending if we can’t get her out in the next 24 hours. She suffers from vision and hearing loss and is deemed non essential in a shelter where space is limited. We think she is essential as she is super sweet and has found herself at the pound no fault of her own. Being blind is not a reason for euthanasia. GRRR currently cares for a number of visually impaired dogs and each one is a delight and joy. We need a local foster home so that Marjorie can leave the shelter.

Seven year old Forest and his sister Jenny have joined the GRRR Georgia Rescue. Yesterday, Forest had his intake exam with Dr. Becker at Eastside Veterinary Hospital. Jenny will visit next Thursday. Other than medications for his skin and getting him neutered, we are happy to find out that he is HW negative. At 92 lbs., he is one (big) incredibly sweet dog and we will be seeking a forever home for him in the near future. He is great with cats, kids, dogs and people and his favorite thing to do is love and cuddle! Stay tuned for future updates on Forest. We love you Forest and welcome you to GRRR!

Our Story

Founded in 2011, GRRR is a small 501(c)(3) rescue organization that serves Savannah, Georgia and the surrounding counties. We are dedicated to rescuing small dogs under 30 lbs. in size from owners who are no longer able to care for them, from public shelters without a “no-kill” policy, and from situations where they have suffered abuse or neglect. We are committed to helping both the most needy and the more readily adoptable animals in our community. GRRR places a large emphasis on working with senior dogs who are overlooked by most people when they are adopting a dog. We have rescued many senior dogs, insuring that their last years are comfortable, loved and happy. All donations made are tax deductible, and every dollar goes directly to the care of our animals. All of our rescues are spayed or neutered, receive proper veterinary treatment, and are placed in loving foster homes while awaiting adoption. To meet a pet of interest please complete an adoption application at grrrsavesdogs.org and we will contact you to discuss adoption opportunities.
