Not Everyone Has a Heart for Animals and That Breaks Mine.
One of the hardest parts of what I do is knowing that not every animal is met with love, patience, or understanding. Some are met with hands that hit. Raised voices. Cold crates. Cruel intentions masked as “training.” And that… that is why I choose to do so much of this work myself. Because not everyone should be trusted with a soul that only knows how to love us.
Dogs don’t come into this world understanding our rules, our homes, our language. They learn. And they learn best through compassion, not cruelty.
Some dogs don’t nap all day.
Some dogs aren’t cuddle bugs.
Some have been through trauma we’ll never fully understand.
Some bark. Some chew. Some pull. Some need time.
They need grace.
They don’t need someone to “put them in their place.”
They need someone who meets them where they are.
This is why I work the way I do. It’s not because I don’t trust anyone. It’s because I’ve seen what happens when the wrong people are given the right to care for voiceless beings. I do it myself because I know the love, safety, and patience I will bring.
So if you’re a dog parent, a foster, a volunteer, or even just someone thinking about bringing a dog into your life, please remember: it’s a privilege. One that comes with responsibility, heart, and a commitment to understanding a creature who only ever wanted to belong.
We have to do better, for them.
Always.
