So behind on post, but training has been coming along so great! This little bay mare has the kindest eye and the most level head.
Over the past month we’ve worked on the basics and getting to know each other and just taking things slow. I find with the young ones, working them too long at once can only frustrate them and further delay progress so as long as we finish the session on a positive note, I’m happy. Multiple sessions for shorter time spans (30ish minutes) a day seem to work well for her and her mind. Some days she will want a little longer, other days we may only get a good solid 15 minutes before I can tell her head is elsewhere.
Strengths:
-picking up all 4 feet and being cleaned out
-easy to catch in the pasture (she will usually be the first to you)
-walking over bridges (upgrading to a real bridge this week)
-loading in a trailer with and without handler (free loading)
-fly spray
-trotting over poles
-ground tying
-wearing fly masks (dont worry, she has a brand new one on the way, had to use the worn out one to practice)
Tasks to Improve on:
-Standing tied patiently
-Herd/Buddy sour
-Cowboy Curtain (almost there, just not fully confident enough to call it a strength)
-Sidepassing
-opening gates (they all have clips on them now 🤦🏽♀️)
All In all, I am so Impressed with this mare. I can’t wait to see what the next 4 weeks will bring. At this point, age especially, this mare could go any direction with any discipline. Since shes not of age for training for riding, I cant say what kind of rider she would best be suited for.
Unlike the other divisions In this challenge, Puzzle will be unavailable for adoption at the event on July 26th. We would still love to have you come cheer us on and take a peek at our extra little trick we’ve been practicing 😉
Thank you for the continued support and for following along!
