Well Jigsaw, AKA Jig, truly lives up to the red mare name. She’s definitely full of sass but has made great progress over the last month.

After settling in, we got to work. I’ve outlined some of her strengths and “needs work” goals below

Strengths:
-easy to catch
-leads and ties well
-standing for grooming
-cowboy curtain
-loading/unloading from trailer
-bridges

“Needs work”
-fly spray
-backing up
-walking/trotting poles
-side pass

There are still things that are evident that we need to work on but all in all progress has been great. These next 4 weeks I’m sure we will see a huge leap in progression so the next update will hopefully be a lot more detailed on the strengths and a lot fewer items on the needs work list. For a first time trainer doing this by myself with a bit of guidance, I would like to say this horse would do well with an experienced horseman but under the supervision of a trainer. She is too young yet to do any saddle training so when that time comes, I would advise always working with an experienced trainer to help you and the horse for the best possible future outcome for both of you.

Jig won’t be available for adoption at the event but seeing all the support there would be incredible. Thank you for taking the time to read and follow along on this journey we are taking.

This week is all about decompression and getting accustom to their new place. 🏠

Jigsaw, also now known as Jig for short, has already decided that pigs aren’t friends. So that will be a topic to revisit many times. She let her pal Puzzle be the buffer just in case the pig was able to get through two solid fences 🤣

When meeting the rest of the herd, she had confidence but again, let puzzle be the buffer. She seems to come off confident when it comes to people, but other horses/animals she has hesitation so being here will be a good place to get all types of exposure.

The snow is melting and ground is clearing up slowly so while we wait it out, just getting to know each other and the surroundings is our focus this week!

Jigsaw and I on day of pick up 🐴

We came expecting to only get one horse, so we only had one good lead rope but found a broken one in the pickup. Thought we could improvise but ended up being too short after all 🤣 guess it was kept for spare parts!

Hi everyone! I'm Blayne and I have joined the 2025 Battle of the Best Training Competition after seeing this little horse not getting picked during pick up day.

While I am usually behind the wheel with real "horse power", I am going to try my hand at some actual HORSE power. This is Jigsaw, my training horse that I will be working with. She is a 2 year old mustang. She was born on the range but was brought in when they did a round up. She is very willing to do what you ask already and I feel this will be a fun challenge for both of us.

Follow along as we take the next few months to learn all the things and compete in July and see if I can beat my wife at the trainer challenge!
