Celeste Susany Artist

Celeste Susany Artist Celeste Susany is recognized as one of the nation's premier equine artists. Celeste received her degree from Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles .

Celeste was born in 1952 in a small town in eastern Ohio and moved to Southern California in 1962 with her family. She spent her formative years as a young artist amid the pageantry of Santa Anita, Hollywood Park and Del Mar. Thoroughbred racing, along with her artistic eye, were the right combination to bring to life on canvas a love of a sport that has lasted close to three decades. While still

at school, she describes an occasional exit out the back curtain of her perspective class to go to the track, as part of her education. After graduation, she became an art director for a large record distributing company. All the while, continuing to sketch horses and landscapes at the racetrack. Her real education came as a hotwalker at Santa Anita. Because she wasn't brought up around horses, she felt the need to be up close and personal by taking a job on the backside. Although her hotwalking days were short-lived, (because she felt the need to stay alive) it gave her a different perspective of the sport. The first showing of her equine art came at a Del Mar yearling sale in 1983. This subsequently led to her meeting Kris Robillard, who owned a horse named Kris S. She became one of Celeste's first important collectors. Her first connection to Kentucky came when she met Lee Horton, a gallery and frame shop owner, who was selling her prints. They met in April, and were married in September of 1985. They now have two children, Dustin and Leeanne. Contacts in Kentucky led to artwork for the Kentucky Derby in 1989, 1990, and 1996. That, in turn led to a series of Winner's prints for the Derby , including last year's winner, Giacamo. One of her best clients in Kentucky is Early Times. She has been doing the artwork that graces the bottle of the Early Times Mint Julep, the official drink of the Kentucky Derby, for the past seven years. Celeste has been exhibiting work in Saratoga annually since 1984. She has been doing artwork for the Saratoga Racecourse for the past eight years, as well as exhibiting her work on the track during the race meet. She now owns a home in Saratoga , where she lives with her family. Although a major portion of Celeste's work is privately owned, she continues to do commissions for many of the racetracks around the country and Canada . She received recognition as a top American artist in the book, Racing in Art, by John Fairley, a British collector. Celeste's paintings can be found in the collections of a long list of distinguished clients, including , Tom Simmons, renowned handicapper, Chris McCarron, Bob and Beverly Lewis, Wayne Lukas, Scott Guenther, Kris and John Robillard, Don Amos, Magna Int., Dermot Ryan, Ashford Stud, Robert and Christina Baker, Paul Horning, Alec Baldwin, Abbey and Javier Castellano, Bill and Susan Casner, Mark Taylor, Tony and Robin Malatino, Ed and Joanne Shapoff, Steve Burn, as well as many others. Her commercial clients include Santa Anita, Del Mar, Churchill Downs, Brown Forman, The New York Racing Association, Hoosier Park , The Oak Tree Racing Association, The Jockey Club, The Florida Breeder's Association, The Ontario Jockey Club. Because of her passion with the thoroughbred, a large part of her work has been dedicated to the sport. Although, when she is not painting horses, she has enjoyed other successes as a portrait painter. She enjoys both figurative as well as landscape painting.

🎨This is my painting of Seize the Grey. My main goal when painting him was that I wanted to capture his amazing spirit! Elizabeth Gilbert, who wrote Eat Pray Love, said a work of art should be 2 things...1, Surprising ...and 2, Inevitable. I hope it does that.
I am currently showing him at the Saratoga Racecourse but you can also purchase online with the link below! https://www.celestesusany.com/product-page/seize-the-grey
