I'm BACK! You might very noticed it's been a little quiet around here. This is because me and my human family went on a two and a half week vacation where we visited my family, and then my husband's family all back to back. There was a lot of driving involved and my three furry companions didn't get to come with me. It was a lot of fun but I missed my dogs and cat tremendously, so I'm very happy to be home!

Huge shout out to and for watching my sweet Waddles for such a long time. If you need boarding these ladies are amazing!

Every tool needs to be used correctly, and the ecollar is no exception. Practice and knowledge are vital, but also the understanding of dog psychology and why something works, as well as signs of distress or confusion. Get a trainer who knows how and when to use an ecollar correctly and is willing to advocate for your dog when they need it.

I promised more explanation didn't I? Well here it is. A deeper dive on why I say don't use ecollars on puppies.

Let's talk about tone of voice! As humans, it's natural for us to want to coo and speak in a high pitch when small, cute things are acting scared, but remember that dogs and people are different! Don't communicate in a way that makes sense to YOU. Communicate in a way that makes sense to your dog.

Now for my favorite category of dog. I know that may seem weird, but behavior dogs are way too often not given the chance to thrive. They are often given up on or confined to a very limiting life. Behavior dogs deserve good lives too. Behavior dogs deserve to be taught. Behavior dogs are loved dogs, and it is my personal mission to save as many of them as I possibly can. If your dog is having issues and you feel like giving up, please send me a message so we can talk about it first. They can do this, and so can you.

You think this definition would be obvious, but it is important to note since some people will claim a family pet is an emotional support animal when they have not been approved as such. Being a family pet is important too! But if your dog does not have the proper training or credentials for the job, don't claim that they do. The increase in "fake" ESAs and service dogs has caused an uptick in discrimination against people who need their dog as an accessibility tool.

Alright, this is the big, controversial one. Emotional support animals can be AMAZING supports, but they are not legally allowed access to all public areas. If your dog does not have at least two active tasks that they perform to assist with any given disability, but they do help you feel better when they're around, then that is an ESA and should be respected as such. ESA's and service dogs are different, and it is important not to get them confused.
