Maggie 😍 She is a great trail horse, great jumper and coming along well in her flat work as well. She is a chunky little 5yr old and very lovable. She does best with a tactful rider that will not use strong aids in any way (light leg, hands and seat).

New flat video of Tuffy! 7yr old 16 hand mare. Raced once and then had training for polo before coming to us. Lots of trail riding experience as well and has taken to jumping very well. She gives you a very safe feeling while also being forward and sensitive. Great project for any level rider really!

Unfortunately our fulltime rider injured her spleen and is on rest for a while. We are looking for a great rider to help for the rest of June. Looking for a solid rider capable of schooling green horses, both our TBs as well as other horses in training.
We are also accepting summer volunteers or working students. We are a non profit 501(c)(3) so perfect for students needing volunteer hours for school.
We are located just 45 minutes north of Burbank or 1 hour from Santa Monica/Downtown etc.

Tuffy's first time jumping! Tuffy is a 7yr old mare owned by a friend. She has been in polo training before coming here and she has been super willing and progressing every ride. She is right at 16 hands.

Franky out on trail 😍 She was absolutely perfect! We ran into lots of barking dogs, horse trailers, construction vehicles, donkeys, runners and other horses. Walked past properties with movie props and flags etc. Good girl, Franky ❤

Sad to say this is the hardest year we've had since we started over 7 years ago. Not a single adoption in April. We had a few people come try horses and the horses were absolutely perfect and some trainers gave lessons to multiple students on them. And then not a single word from anyone.
Our hay bill last week was $8800 and we have not paid it yet. We need to raise enough to cover what our personal accounts can't cover which is about $2500.
Many people are saying the prices of horses have gone up but we are still charging way less in adoption fees than other organizations in our area and we do provide professional training for our horses which no other non profit organizations do as far as we are aware.
Shavings, stall cleaning and supplements add up as well and farrier costs have gone up $20+/horse (every 4-6 weeks and we will not let horses go over due).
Can we raise $2500 to help cover what we don't have for the hay?

Looking for a good rider with solid dressage background minimum 2nd/3rd level but higher preferred and capable of introducing horses to jumping and trail riding.
This position is for both Fresh Start horses as well as our dressage/jumper horses.
Must be confident and capable of riding everything from 3yr olds to upper level horses.
3-5 days per week, very flexible! Pay up to $35/ride.

It's that time of year again! We are making yummy horse cookies to help us get through the tough winter months where the weather is tricky and very few adoptions happen. This has been an extremely hard year for us overall as far as help and we've been receiving horses that needed and still need lots of TLC before they are ready to even be tried and we are still on the verge of having to close down to try to recover what we have spent this year.
Anyway, these cookies are available for purchase, it's $25/bag and they have some yummy stuff in them and are picky eater approved!
Shipping will vary but we are trying to figure out the best pricing for this year. Pickup and local drop off are also options!

Merit is a super cute 2017 16.2 gelding.
He's a nice prospect for any discipline. He does best with a more experienced rider at this time but is not spooky or hot, just needs someone who knows how to supple and work him in a proper connection or he will get tight.

Thanks so much to Stacey and Jonathan for donating two truckloads of water to help us out! It was incredibly helpful as our regular water company couldn't come out extra and we've been almost dry since someone left a hose on for over 12 hours a few weeks ago and we lost our entire tank.

Hello,
I'd like to apologize for the lack of posts lately. We have had a really hard time the past year and a half since covid shut everything down. We have not had any fulltime staff or riders in 1.5 years and we're trying our best but sadly people also haven't been very kind or respectful lately and it's taken a toll on me and made me question why we even do this.
We do have lots of horses available. I will post a few today.
Just please, be kind and respectful when you come and try horses. Be honest about you nhi your riding ability. Don't ride the horse for an hour and then say you're looking for something bigger, smaller, older etc. Don't say you want a project horse if you want something ready to compete next week. Please don't try a horse and then say you're not ready to get one for 6 months and please don't try horses that are over budget. These are young horses that like to bond with their riders, if tried too many times or ridden poorly they get sour and it makes it really hard to help them find a good home.
Please just be kind, me and Gen work on a volunteer basis.

Last year we let our personal horses sit and we did everything to keep Fresh Start running during Covid. Unfortunately we don't have the resources to keep going.

Tiger Bomb has graduated the Placement Program! This beautiful three-year-old filly is by Smiling Tiger and is out of Montant. She retired from racing with no starts and a handful of recorded works. Tiger Bomb will start retraining with aftercare charity Fresh Start Sport Horses and will be available for adoption.
Thank you Toreador Equine for rehabbing Tiger Bomb and taking such great care of her during her time in the Placement Program.

Much like the folks at Fresh Start do with Thoroughbreds, the riders featured in The Great Flip-Off had to figure out what to do with their equine companions once their craft, ba****ck riding, was phased out of circus shows. The documentary follows these riders for 10 years, from 2006 when they put together the titular “Great Flip-Off” to the present day, as most adjust to life after the heyday of ba****ck riding. It’s an extremely interesting film that I have to recommend to any horse lovers! Out now on VOD :-)
