🐾National Pit Bull Awareness Month🐾

October is National Pit Bull Awareness Month! We want to challenge misconceptions about pit bulls and promote the idea that a dog's breed does not dictate its personality or behavior. Here are some fun facts about Pit Bulls:
1. Both Teddy Roosevelt and President Woodrow Wilson owned Pit Bull terriers.
2. Pit Bulls have served as wartime soldiers and mascots, including Stubby, who went to war in France for 18 months during WWI. His service and acts of bravery - including saving his regiment from mustard gas attacks - earned him the rank of Sergeant, and he returned home to a hero's parade.
3. Famous Pit Bulls include the RCA dog named Nipper, the Buster Brown shoe mascot, and Petey, the canine companion of the adorable Little Rascals.
4. Pit Bulls have an athletic build and are very agile, which allows many to climb fences with ease.
5. Pit Bulls can be musically inclined. In fact, there was a Pit Bull grindcore band - named Caninus - which was fronted by two Pit Bull lead singers, who barked their lyrics.
6. At one point in history, Pit Bulls were considered trustworthy enough with children to be called nurse maids or nanny dogs.
7. Many puppies that are identified as Pit Bulls begin life with a very wrinkled forehead, which they outgrow as they age.
8. A test conducted by National Geographic in 2008 on three popular dog breeds showed that the bite force of Pit Bulls came in last, behind both German Shepherd and Rottweilers. The idea of Pit Bulls having lock jaws is a myth that has been spread for years.
9. According to the American Temperament Test Society, Pit Bulls pass their temperament test - conducted by a trained handler - 87% of the time. That ranks them as 4th best of 122 breeds tested, meaning they are one of the most affectionate and least aggressive dogs.
10. VetStreet.com has ranked American Pit Bull terrier as one of the top 3 favorite dog breeds in the US yet they are the most euthanized breed.

🐾National Adopt-a-Dog Month🐾

Here, at The Pet Care Club of Santa Clarita, we encourage the adoption of dogs from animal shelters and provide them with loving homes. Here is the story of Jordy, who got adopted from Castaic Animal Shelter, by Camille.

"Since our Tobey passed, I was trying to convince my mom that we needed another dog in the house. She said if I were to get one, it would be my responsibility, including all fees, vaccinations, food, etc. I told her I would do it because that is how bad I wanted another dog in our house. Coming home to an empty house was getting too much for me to bear, especially with being in nursing school. She finally agreed to meet me at the Castaic Animal Shelter. She went beforehand and already had in mind which dog I would be interested in taking home. Her and I both picked the same dog, without me knowing. We were able to take him to the little play area and the worker left to get treats and asked if we were comfortable being left along with him. I said yes and as soon as I said that, he jumped into my lap. I looked at my mom and said 'I am taking him home today.' Jordy became a part of our family and is absolutely one of the best dogs out there! I am so happy our paths crossed that day!" - Camille

My name is Suzie, and I am the proud owner of The Pet Care Club of Santa Clarita. I specialize in dog walking, puppy care, boarding small dogs, cat visits, and senior pets that need extra love and care. I absolutely love caring for animals! I started in the dog walking business back in 2008 and haven't looked back. Every animal I have cared for has quickly become part of our family.
